I was able to visit Kiltepan during the 2nd Sagada Marathon which was held last February 15, 2015. As of that day, we able to traversed a rough road but unfortunately for us who ran that day, we were not able to see the sunrise plus the scenic views due to the fogs and it rained the night before. But at least we were able to finish the race and appreciate the beauty of nature. We will definitely come back and hopefully be able to see a beautiful sunrise.
I am giving an average rating for Kiltepan as this event is a hit or miss thing. We woke up at 330AM to catch the sunrise at 624AM but were disappointed when the sun was blocked by the thick clouds. If you plan to take epic photos, be there early to get the best spot. There is only one good thing that I can think of If you happen to arrive late; your van (or jeep) will be the first one to get out of the huge crowd. There is a bit of a walk though going up the hill. Bring a flashlight. It's chilly so keep yourself warm and cozy while you wait. I don't recommend wearing slippers as the pathway may be muddy and slippery. In case you were the lucky ones who saw the beautiful sunrise on a fine day, I envy you. Have a DSLR? Bring a tripod. For GoPro videographers, two words -- time lapse. Enjoy and have patience!
Breathtaking and amazingly magnificent! The feeling it gives you is something that you would remember for the rest of your life. One of the Best sunrise ever that I have experience!
We had read about this and seen it in a local movie so we were really eager to see the sunrise view at Mt. Kiltepan. It was just a few minutes ride away from the town center of Sagada and we hired a van arranged by the tourism office for P500. It was fine since there were 4 of us sharing the van.We were picked up at 5AM; the driver was prompt and spoke good English. We badgered him with many questions about Sagada and he answered us good-naturedly. When we arrived at the viewpoint, we were surprised to see a lot of people already gathered there. By 5:30AM, more and more people spilled in and it was like were a cult. It reminded me of that scene in the movie City of Angels where all the angels gathered at the beach to hear their message from God. The sun was slow to rise and there weren't much visible rays for picture-taking. But the view itself of the clouds over the terraces was breathtaking. It was worth waking up early for.
Well worth doing although the chances of seeing a true sunrise are supposed to be slim. Usually the sun will rise from behind the clouds like she did when I was there. You can expert a good view of the rice terraces from afar unless there's cloud cover. A thin line of forest fire was glowing in the distance at the time- scenic in the dusk, presumably started for "slash and burn" forest clearing though. You could hike to the viewpoint from the village if you know the route and have good light. I guess it would take at least 45 minutes going mostly uphill. The amusing aspect arises from the attendance by a youthful crowd using cell phones and tablets to preserve themselves for posterity. On the slopes you're thus firmly in selfie stick country.
Kiltepan Mountain was our first stop from Banaue and we got there before sunrise. Apparently there were those who walked up the mountain for the choice spots earlier than us. 10 or 17 years ago, there were more fog, trees than sunrise anticipators Now it's the opposite. Also years ago there was no place to have coffee and breakfast items. Now there's the Hinode Cafe.Kiltepan should not just be a pit stop, part of a hurried tour. You have to savor the sunrise to sun-up till noon at least to take in the magnificient surroundings.Tip for caffe-cionados. Be sure to ask the kitchen staff and order taker to make your brew extra strong. It will be worth the extra pesos. Otherwise you will be drinking colored water, worse than instant coffee..

If you cannot be here while in Sagada, you miss the whole enchanting beauty of her.You can either walk to reach this place. An hour before the rising of the sun is for male hikers. If you think your clumsy, maybe an hour or two will be better. You can also hire van. This is the easiest. You can jog from the town proper until here. You can also bike. Whichever is comfortable to you and whichever makes your going there more exciting. What is so beautiful here is the sea of clouds with the sun rising. As if, your in heaven while you're gazing the beauty of the sun at the same time being mesmerized by the cotton-like clouds.
If you want to see pack of clouds and a beautiful sunrise, be in this place. There may be a full of expectators during this time but don't worry, the place is so big and there's a lot of space for everyone who wants to have a glimpse of the beautiful creation of God.
We had to wake up at 4 am to wait for the sunrise and going there was a challenge coz of the rough terrain. As soon as we got off the van, It was freezing cold that me and my friends need to huddle to keep ourselves warm. We didn't get the chance to see the sunrise coz it was too cloudy so we just took lots of group pics and took advantage of this "koreanesque" view and weather. :)
