On the Upside: clean restrooms, spacious BBQ areas, kayak ramp, nature, shallow water area ideal for starting with SUP exercises, a hiking trail, outlook over the Chattahoochee. On the downside: limited capacity of parking lots (overcrowded especially on weekends), long distance walk to the ramp (you need trained muscles to bring your SUP all down the way to the water).
This is a city park located above Morgan Falls dam in Sandy Springs. It's great for kids, picnics, etc. There are two short hiking trails, but the view from the park of the lake (Bulls Sluice) behind the dam is very nice.
This is a scenic little park with a really good playground and lots of neat features. The playground has recently? gotten shades over some of the slides and such which makes it great for a hot day. There is also a very large, unique jungle gym. There's picnic benches and fire pits but what I really like about it is that you can walk down to the water and there's also a little trail up above which offer some variation and interest from your regular playground.
Great playground for kids incl. swings, slides, climbing wall, spider web rope thing, spider web monkey bar thing and more -- all under a big shaded cover which really made a difference. The golf grass is nice too. We came on a weekday morning and there were many kids of all ages and single parents (or nannies). They've also got a shelter with picnic tables. Next to the playground are several porch swings with a great view of the river -- the porch swings were my favorite part of the park! There's a short sidewalk trail to the river below where you can a closer view of the river - also a dock for fishing and feeding ducks ... sadly only one duck for my 5-year nephew to feed and the duck wasn't hungry either :( You may have better luck with fishing - I talked to one man and he said he caught an 18 lb carp!Definitely worth the visit for your kids!
This is technically my second time at this park. About a year ago we launched our Kayaks from below this dam. So we used the park for our toilet duties. But this weekend we specifically went to this park to launch our kayaks in the "lake" behind the Morgan Falls dam. My understanding is that this was originally just going to be dog walk area, but as they cleared out brush the realized how close the lake is so the plans changed. The park has playground stuff for the kids, really nice playground stuff. Plus a nice toilet, and pavilion area. Lots of picnic tables. But we went for the launch area. You gotta park on top of the hill, which is where the park is, then carry your yaks down a fairly long hill to get to the floating dock to launch your boats. No boatramp, just the floating dock. So not the best but was not intended to be a yak launch either. To be so close to town, and have a place you can launch your boat, and do some fishing is great. Now keep in mind that you need to be prepared for the DNR. I've not had my fishing license checked in many many many years. I always have it but never get checked. In this little lake, all 4 of us got checked by the DNR who was patrolling the area in a boat. No big deal, just doing their job. They were very polite and helpful so just make sure you are legal.
We just discovered this fantastic spot the other day. Several choices of scenic paths, historic spots with explanation, a great playground for the little ones, and a giant enclosure with lots of picnic tables, a fireplace and 2 massive BBQ grills. Perfect for a birthday party or family reunion.A beautiful, peaceful place to spend an afternoon.
Its a very nice scenic place with river view, kids play area and party shelter. The swings are the best !!!
I heard about this park from a friend. it was great. it has all the kinds of things a good kid park should have with views like you are in the north GA mountains.
This park was great for kids to play with ample benches, picnic tables, adult swings, and a nice view - all for adults to enjoy. This is a good 30 minutes from our house- but we will definitely go back!
A lovely little park that is definitely well maintained. I enjoy coming here after work and walking around. The dog park on the other side is nice too. The dog park is fenced in and separates the large and small dogs. Only downfall to this dog park is there isn't much shade. Its a nice place to let your dog run after a long day inside. I tried taking him to Brooke Run dog park and yes it is well shaded but a downfall is they have no separate area for smaller dogs. I appreciate Morgan Falls taking all sizes into consideration.
