Didn't golf but had dinner at the restaurant. Was okay, but decided we would eat some place else the other nights we were in Lake San Marcos.
4.25 hour round on a Sunday afternoon. I asked for a pull cart as the course is very walkable even for a senior such as myself and I prefer to walk, set the pace, and get some exercise . They paired me up with two young single girls. A spectacular round!
Great junior tournament here. High school team sometimes here during spring. Shop very affordable. The rates are reasonable with low wait times.
Wanted to play an easier executive course as we were in on vacation and a heat wave of 94 to 100 was present for a few days. No way was I going to play a bigger course in these conditions. For two players we paid $56 which included a cart. Lots of short par threes and three par fours where you could pull out the driver. We played here two days in a row at around 1030 to 11 a.m. Good time as most people were already done for the day. No wonder with this heat. The course was surprisingly in great condition. Very green fairways and the greens were very plush and soft. Your ball hit and stopped. Very impressed with the quality and putted very well.Would recommend this to anyone who wants to work on their short game and have fun, without spending more than two to three hours.
Bottom line, challenging course, excellent condition, greens are green, fairways are green and the sand traps fluffy. Staff are over the top in assistance and truly welcoming to both members and visitors alike and the best part very economical for play on one of the top courses in North San Diego County. This property is associated with the recently renovated Lake House Lodge, within walking distance.
We had 8 people in our party and had lunch here on a Monday. The drinks were not good, had no flavor. The bartender did not know how to make a Manhattan , even though it was on the menu. The cole slaw was flavorless. Sandwiches were average. Coffee was warm and after asking for more coffee we were given a tepid coffee pot. The only thing we really enjoyed was the desserts and seeing our dear relatives.
See Lakehouse stay and play review. There, I have mostly rated the golf experience which was very enjoyable.
The new owners of SMGC continue to invest back into the property, improving the course and the facilities. The course has a nice feel to it and they welcome juniors, unlike other places. The pro shop staff is generally pretty good. the manager, Frank, is very welcoming and works to ensure that the staff treats members and guests respectfully. The fairways here are always green. My only real complaint is that the restaurant is not very good. I have had many meals here- breakfast, lunch, and dinner- and all have been disappointments. The service has been slow and frustrating, making the meals even more unpleasant. One other note: there are a lot of cigar smokers here. If you find the smell offensive, it can be hard to escape if you are on the patio, dining on the terrace, or in the practice areas.
They have out money into course. Have played it 6-7 times and it's good for those who haven't played much or are just learning. Inexpensive fees $16. Course it always in good condition. Enjoyable round.
The new owners are really working hard to upgrade the golf course. There has been a lot of removal of old overgrown trees, so now the grass gets more sun and is getting much better. Greens are in good shape and quick. I may have given them an average, but look for the course conditions to continue ago improve. The staff their is great.
