Senior female prospective... Very fair up tees, very little water, secluded holes, many sloped fairways and greens, very good shape, nice clubhouse and staff, small handful of women's shirts so didn't buy - but hubby did. He played tees right behind me and enjoyed his game. Called several times to book tee time and get Harrah's discount but never got an answer. Booked on Golf Now, finding a one slot bargain around 12:30 that was cheaper anyway. We played during the week.
Been doing a Buddies Trip to Biloxi for the last few years. Having played the bulk of the courses around this area over that time, Grand Bear, along with The Preserve, is an absolute stand-out. It's got a 6mi access road through the Desoto National Forest. You're driving down this long road with no other properties on it and it hits you: This deep in for no apparent reason, this course is gonna be nice! And it is. Well-maintained, beauty club house and great golf. What I really like about this course is the figure-eight sausage-link cut through the forest (have a look at it on Google Maps satellite). There's never an adjacent hole. You rarely see another golfer out there. The course itself is tough but fair and the scenery is outstanding. As Jack himself puts it in the course bio: I don't believe in one signature hole. I designed 18 of them.
Wonderful golf experience all the way around the course. Everything is right in front of you. Wide fairways, large greens and lots of deep sand bunkers. Course conditions perfect. Drives rolled out nicely on fairways, greens held shots and putted perfectly. Facility staff very courteous and welcoming. As others mentioned, the club house and indoor facilities are beautiful! Can someone please explain why such a facility would be 'shooing' us out the door at 4:30 pm because they were closing? We would have dropped another $50 on a burger and a couple of beers after the round had they chose to stay open beyond 4:30 pm.
14 of us from North Dakota played here twice in the last week. Very welcoming and gracious in the clubhouse. We had a package from the Palace Casino and Hotel with rounds of golf here and Shell Landing. A nice value. I suppose I should mention my hole in one on number 7 on Monday morning!! Always makes a golf trip just a little better!!
Beautiful clubhouse and very challenging course! Friendly service. Husband shot a 68!!! Needless to say, we had a great time!!
I organize a golf trip that includes Grand Bear every Super Bowl Sunday. We had a rain check from 14 months ago for two atta 3 players we had. I didn't have our paper rain checkss since it was so long ago, but still Mr. Ian honored it plus he allowed our 3rd person to play Grand Bear for free!! Talk about value! This is arguably the best course Ive played like Ive reviewed years ago, but the service Ive received on booking large groups has been outstanding. I really appreciate the staff and will continue to support this Grand venue time and time again.
This Nicklaus golf course is the jewel of the area. very friendly staff, excellent course conditions, very playable for all golfers. kind of short on staff in bar, food area, maybe slow midweek? stayed at the Harrahs casino Resort and golf was $42 for 18 with lunch. We had a great time here and enjoyed this course very much, good challenge while fun to play.
Super private golf experience! Every hole is has its own unique layout separate from the rest of the course. Forgiving fairways with picturesque approach shots. Greens are protected and each shot needs to be hit in the right areas. A must play for anyone visiting the area!
A very good challenging but not punishing golf course completely surrounded by national forest. Very well run, very good value, extremely nice and unpretentious. Must travel quite a way to beat this place.
Come to see only open countryside course with not a house in site. Long course, with extremely challenging greens. I will have to go back to bite it back!! Log cabin style clubhouse with friendly service. Off the main rd by about 6 mls down a windy road
