Although we have been to the Soo a few times, this was our first visit to this attraction and very impressive. It has the best view of the lock operation and town in general. Don't miss this attraction. The historic information about the town and locks is via limited photo displays and is likely only engaging for adults, but the views from the top are not to be missed.
Very cool views of the Soo and surrounding area. Nice little video and boards about the Tower and Soto area. Elevator takes you to the top, which has indoor and outdoor viewing areas.
We wanted to experience this and figured well of course an elevator is handicap accessible. Nope. There are steps to get to the elevator? So it was a no go. Might want to consider putting in a ramp area. Only makes sense to me.
This tower has a great viewing area of the area around the Soo Locks. I got some great pictures. However I think it is over priced. They have a small museum which shows a 15 minute movie. If you want a great view this is the place to go otherwise I would not waste your time
The view from the top is great on a clear day! The tower itself could use some upkeep. The artifacts inside the tower nice but think could use so much more. Quite pricing for what it is dark dingy building. Viewing area could use sprucing up.
This was really exciting. I love to be able to go up into a building and see the surrounding countryside. It was a beautiful day and the view was magnificent. We could see all around the upper north country, Canada, the ships on the St. Mary's river and take excellent pictures. It is an interesting story behind the building of the tower. I recommend it all who are going to Sault Ste. Marie.
Pros:1) The tower has a very nice view of the area 2) The staff were gracious enough to allow us to bring our bikes inside as it was raining outside so they are very thoughtfulCons:1) Cost money (and there really wasn't anything worth viewing inside, just the view outside)2) "tower of History" is a bit of a misnomer as it does not provide much insight for the history of the area other than a few plaques & displays and a poorly created film3) It is not well maintained.
The Tower of History's name and exterior appearance weren't particularly inspiring to me. But the view from the top was excellent.I would suggest not visiting this attraction until you have some sense of how the town is laid out. It was great to be able to look down at something that looked like a river and know that that was the Power Canal, and to see the long and short locks on the American side. I don't think you'd get much sense of what you were looking at if you didn't prepare ahead of time.
Not worth the $7. Should be $2, it's just an elevator ride to the top and you can see supposedly, 22 miles over Sault Saint Marie. It looked better from the ground, no frills, nothing special.
The view from the platforms on this tower are amazing! You can see the Soo Locks in action and the town of Sault Ste. Marie all around. Maps in front of you tell you what you are looking at. There are also a lot of historical photos and displays with very interesting information of the area. Well worth the cost and you can spend as much time there as you like.
