We've been visiting Maine for more than ten years. This place was the first we visited with our two liitle boys. They are both grown up now but this place has many many memories. It's beautiful. A little cold in December but in July.......memorable.
We were scouting it out for possible rentals next summer and we liked what we saw! Not too many people at the beach, good waves, and nice, quiet little streets, with adorable cottages and homes to rent. May certainly rent something thee.
This small hidden away beach, I think is the best kept secret in Maine. When the tide is out you can walk on the beach very far out. It is small, clean and just beautiful
I am the second generation to bring my family and their families to Higgins Beach from Virginia. I live 10 mins. from the ocean and still travel to Higgins Beach for vacation every summer. It is just that special! "Quaint" is the word that best describes this community for me. One of my fondest memories is waking up to the sound of the birds in and around the cottages at sunrise and grabbing a cup of hot tea for my morning walk on the beach. And the flowers in the neighborhood gardens are always gorgeous due to the rich Maine soil. The beach is fabulous, and I can't wait to go again this year!
Not the biggest, not the best, not much parking and very little beach at high tide but it's still my favorite beach. It's out of the way (mostly used by locals and those renting cottages) and feels pretty private and unrestricted. The Higgins beach area is terrific if you want a relaxing beach vacation but you have to drive elsewhere for most entertainment and restaurants etc. it's about 15 minutes to Portland.
I remember going to this beach in college and I loved it!! It was beautiful and quiet and just such a special place for me. When I go to Maine I try to go back there and sit on the rocks and eat some seafood!! I remember my brother-in-law surfing there also. It was just a majic place for me!!
Beautiful beach with old wreck and they are good to dogs, except during piping plover season but even then it's not as restricted as some beaches can be,
No crowds, friendly people. We loved to watch the surfers come down after 5pm and see people digging for their dinners.
No parking here unless you know someone. Lots of one ways. The beach itself is getting smaller every year with no room at high tide. Great tidal pools near the rock formation. It is still a beautiful Maine beach.
The first time I stayed on this beach I was 7 and I said I would live here....and now I do. It is a magical beach with a 12 ft tide change. It's always changing and it is always remembered fondly.
