a very humbling experience to walk through here. a like plus plus experience,Could not find anything to dislike about this walk. how could anyone find a dislike to this place.
We came across this by accident, and wow, what a find. we loved it, and enjoyed locating names of friends/relatives on the wall. Having lived in puckapunyal as a child, I found it particularly interesting.
The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk is one of the best memorials in Australia. The brainchild of several local Vietnam Veterans, the concept enjoyed support at all levels of government, industry and the local community. It commenced with a replica of the Luscomb Bowl which contains story boards of significant events in the conflict, Grass planted represents the rice paddies of Vietnam, and groves of trees the jungle. There is a "Huey" helicopter on a pole, other artefacts of each service, and a replica of the Long Tan Cross. But the overwhelming feature is the glass wall, illuminated at night, containing the name of every person (and animal) which served:service personnel and civilian alike. This is a fitting tribute to a group of Australians who were treated very badly on their return to Australia:my generation has sought to make up for that by supporting this project.
This dedication to Vietnam Veterans is first rate. All members who served in Vietnam are listed (unless you objected) from all Services on pictures that relate to that theatre of War. The surrounding area of tree plantaions and grass plantations are meant to represent the rubber trees and rice paddies that were in Vietnam. There is nothing I disliked about the Walk. What I do like is the area has been well used. If it had not been it would have been just another overgrown area the Shire would have tried to attend to. Also the ability of being able to lay engraved pavers (at a cost) is another on going income source for the local Branch. Very well done.
Well worth the visit to search for the names of people you know on the glass panels and pavers. Beautiful layout.
well worth a visit search the walls for people you know, a fantastic memorial for the defence members that served in Vietnam
This attraction contains some very good information on the australian involvement in the vietnam war. It is easy to walk around. All very interesting. Worth a visit.
This is an excellent tribute to all those that fought in Vietnam. My father and family friends fought and are remembered here.
I took my grand kids and they climbed all over the tank and then they wanted to go in the helicopter which was not going to happen as this in on the top of a long flag pole. You can buy vietnam army things the funds help keep up the good work the volunteers are doing.
I have visited this beautiful walk many times, I highly recommend when you visit Seymour this is a must see.
