Had a lovely day at the tropical garden. What a beautiful place, especially the orchids and the oriental gardens. Stopped halfway through for a coffee and our complimentary madeira wine. The day was enjoyed by my 3 year old niece also. Be prepared to walk on steep surfaces. We got the number 21 from Funchal and returned in the cable car.
Very well laid out, a huge variey of things to look at. Not much more to write realy, just making up the 50 characters
Well worth a visit with beautiful Japanese gardens. It is a steep climb back up so take advantage of the buggy.
mistake to attempt Monte Tropical gardens in lightweight pumps! my feet ached for ages after walking on the cobbles. What a lovely garden, it is very hilly in the garden and you can meander up and down for ages. It is very peaceful with the sound of running water. At the time of year we were there the gardens were mostly green, Australian fern trees were the most spectacular plants on show. The orchids were past their best. The actual landscaping is very impressive, built on the slopes of a levada. The cafe is only OK for a snack and a quick drink but the view over Funchal from the terrace is spectacular
Beautiful, tranquil and well laid out. Get back your zen in this garden.......and the view is incredible. Best way to get there is by the cableway up to Monte......and after take the toboggan down.
You need comfortable walking shoes and lots of gradients and steps but gardens, wooden statues and mineral exhibition very interesting. They do provide golf buggy type transport if required.
You need to arrive ideally via cable car. Good views from the gardens and some interesting exhibitions and sculptures. The Japanese garden was truly lovely. Well maintained and luscious. Get the toboggan back down and then walk from the drop off point. Well worth a visit
This garden is definitely worth a visit, so calm and relaxing. Right next to the cable car exit it was so peaceful when we arrived at 10:00am, there are lots of different footpaths to different areas. Lots to see, it was lovely sitting on a seat at the lake with its waterfall surrounded by azaleas. We were advised that this was the best garden to visit, although we didn't visit the Botanical Garden we cannot compare but we're not disappointed.
A lovely few hours. Cable car up, relaxing stroll around these very extensive gardens and either cable car back or toboggan. After days of levafa walking this makes a relaxing break.
Gorgeous gardens especially the two Japanese gardens and fantastic views of Funchal and the coast. The terrace cafe in the gardens is a pleasant place to stop and admire the views. Be warned it's steep and cobbledy so wear flat shoes/trainers (although there is a buggy service that will take you round the major parts).
