We were so looking forward to taking my dad to celebrate his 90th birthday at BALEA LAC. A place he used to take us when we were children, a place so full of positive energy! I guess we tried to find and capture that energy again, many, many years later. Although we traveled mid-week to avoid the big crowds, mid-September, the crowds were there..and so the loud blasting music! Coming from the 2nd hotel (not the old one, by the lake) loud decibels were spewed in the wonderful mountain air...Wanting to escape this mayhem, we went to the old hotel, cabin, by the lake. We could believe when we got in- the cigarette smoke was so thick and the room was reeking of smoke. There was no way that we could eat in such an polluted atmosphere. We would have stayed outside for the old time sakes, but the air was too cold for my dad...therefore we didn't know how to get out as fast as we could! We looked sadly to the path that lead to the Lake Capra which we took so many times and we said good-bye to a wonderful place we used to love. We would never return.
This glacier lake at the top of amazing Transfagarasan road is incredibly beautiful. If you want peace and quiet, avoid summer weekends. Otherwise, great starting point for hiking trips, but proper hiking equipment is a must. Also a good destination for winter sports - but it can only be reached by car during summer months.
A great place for spending ~1 hour on top of Transfagarasan Road. It is also a point for starting climbing adventures in Fagaras Mountains.the view over the road is excellent if the weather is clean, you can also have meals and some outdoor extreme games.Enjoy!
Had a coffee in the hotel overlooking this place. Mid October, frost on the ground just above but toasty warm sitting in the sun, very relaxing.
If you want a breath-taking landscape or a perfect place for taking memorable pictures, definitely Baea Glacier Lake is the right one !
When you reach Balea lac there is a small motel Cabana Balea Lac which is on the lake amazing view rooms r clean and reasonable. Price is 280ron bb must see ! I would rate the location 5 the motel is 4 the food is ok
After an amazing journey to get here the souvenir stalls are more than a little tacky. The views are spellbinding but unless you are a walker there is little else to do other than enjoy one of the restaurants. If you are an energetic walker there are some superb trails around the rim but even as a fit senior citizen I could not manage the climb. Many younger people found it a satisfying challenge,
this place is really incredible, if you want to see a special place, or go for a walk into the mountains, or wanna drive on a mountain road (Transfagarasan Road) maybe the best in the world, or just to stay to admire the beauty of nature, this is the place. Been here for a lot of times and I'm sure I will come back a lot of times from now on also.
We've been to Balea Lake on our way through Transfagarasan. It's a very nice and quiet place, with a beautiful lake! The only minus of the place are the small gift shops which have nothing to do with the beauty of the lake. You can also enjoy a good food at a small restaurant next to the lake.
Balea lake and the view from there is the reward you get after you drive on what I dare to say is one of the most beautiful roads in Eastern Europe (maybe even in Europe but I'll let you make up your own mind). The view from the top is amazing,we stopped there on our way to the Black Sea.we ate a local dish called bulz,it was quite tasty, and then we went for a walk around the lake and took some pictures, rode the "tiroliana" which was quite fun.The scenery is very beautiful and I would link yo return in the winter.
