Breath taking ... So many islands, water so clean, air so fresh, nature so uniqueBoats can be boarded from the center of town, a big plus.
Spent the day driving round the snowy archipelago on our last day in Stockholm. Thoroughly recommend visiting the cities beautiful outlying villages and towns. Free car ferries between islands! Crazy if you're from the UK.
Got the boat to Våxholm from the harbour outside the door. Lovely picturesque trip there and back in summer sun and a charming place to wander around and have a spot of lunch.
We went to the cool place of Sandhamn and met some friends with a boat taking us to a small island for swimming, relaxing and just being together with great friends. Excellent setting for this. This really takes all the stress out of your body when you come to the outskirts of the archipelago overlooking the open waters. Then if you want to party you take yourself back to Sandhamn or you go to a different island like Utö. Here you find the great club Bakfickan, where you can dance the night away!Relax or party your choice!
This boat trip is a lovely excursion from the city to Vax holm. It takes four hours for the return trip and leaves from Strand Vagen (berth 15/16) near the ferry termini. You could leave the boat at Vaxholm and catch the bus back if you chose to. If you want to eat in the restaurant, it's essential to book (we were too late) but it looked as if the views from the restaurant are blocked by the people standing outside on deck. Snacks and drinks are available in the forward lounge but they didn't have very much available. The commentary was interesting and the views of the summerhouses were gorgeous. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon and still have time to do things before and afterwards.
I spent an entire day doing this and wish I had been to a museum or other sightseeing instead. The one interesting place you go to on the ride is somewhere you don't stop so if looking at nice homes along the waterfront takes your fancy then go for it but I would not do this again, plus it was really cold out on the deck but the best views.
We took the Saturday lunchtime trip of 3 hours to Vaxholm. No getting off the boat, but that was fine. It was worth every single penny. The boat is very romantic, the smorgasbord was abundant and very good quality, esp. the pickled herrings. We both felt we had had a very special afternoon. The staff were lovely and the views from the boat amazing.
There are several possibilities to access the inner or outer archipelago by boat. You can go for half or full day. Longer trips with over nights on some of the islands. The accommodation can be anything from tent to hotel - your choice. July and August is very busy month. Early spring and autumn is stunning too. Plan your trip in advance. Information is available for boat trips and tours, fees and what might be interesting to see and visit.
I love being on the water, if you have a sailing boat and haven't been to the archipelago in Stockholm or Karlskrona, YOU NEED TO DO IT!!It's wonderful.
ncredibly beautiful archipelago. In summer there are plenty of boats that depart from Stockholm city center out to the archipelago. There are many different routes to choose. If you travle with a larger vessel to Åland or Finland you can stand on the deck and enjoy the fabulous archipelago, all the way out to the Sea of Åland. In summertime it's realy nice.
