Love this small state park campground. We stayed in our camper in the RV loop. The boys enjoyed riding their bikes around the loop. Water & electric. Dump station next to the bathhouse. Bathrooms/showers clean & well maintained. Vending machine. There is a separate peaceful loop for primitive campers. This area is the most beautiful I think. There are a few sites that back directly up to the swamp! No joke! We saw some brave tent campers. : ) We did not see alligators on our trip but I was surprised we didn't! Ha. Pack your bug spray of course. Although we stayed here in September, it wasn't as "buggy" as I expected. We walked on 2 different wooden boardwalk trails that take you through the woods & swamp land. The old cypress trees are majestic. I read the other reviews on here & the scenery truly does not disappoint. I think it is a "must see." I loved being able to show my boys what a true Louisiana swamp looks like. Just beautiful!! There is a separate area away from campground that has a nice playground & water park. There is a nature center too but we did not have time to visit. Look forward to returning.
Well thought-out park with lots of interesting features. Trails are nice and the pond is best enjoyed walking around it. My fave -- tent sites have their own area away from the RV/trailers.
Tickfaw State Park is a great place to get away for the weekend! Lots of kid friendly activities, friendly staff and a great campground.
camped out at Tickfaw for a 2 night trip . Park is very clean , easy short and long trails - not well marked but you can't get lost but might just end up a little further down the road . We rented canoes for the day and the 5 year olds as well as the 12 year olds loved it good sight for kids to learn to canoe around obstacles , no intense currents ! Very helpful staff makes the park experpience ! Thanks
The park is beautiful. The people that run it are obnoxious and rude. They completely ruined my camping experience! The girl at the front gate was extremely impolite! They didn't seem to care about the visitors at all! You ask a question, she rolls her eyes and gives you a answer like it's a real bother!
Tickfaw State Park 27225 Patterson Rd, Springfield, LA 70462For clarification, I am only rating the campground as it relates to RV and Trailer camping. No consideration is given for other aspects of a campground/park, such as swimming pools, clubhouses, or activities such as fishing or canoeing. Also, many campgrounds may have RV/TT sites that vary in quality. My assessment is base on what I perceive as the best they have to offer.I use a two part rating system. The first is based on the basic elements that most campgrounds provide. The value for each of the items is fixed. This puts all campground on the same level based on what they provide. The final rating is the basic number plus a factor of my assessment of campground maintenance, cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Occasionally, I will throw in a note to explain my evaluation. Most any campground can earn at least a basic 5.0 rating. For me an acceptable campground for a multiple night stay will have to have a final rating of 7.0 or above. Very few campgrounds will go over a 9.0 with 10 being the max. On Trip advisor a 6.5 to 7.0 is equivalent to 3 circles, four circles will be 7.5 to 8.0 and 5 circles are above will be 8.5 and above.Tickfaw State Park CampgroundBasic evaluation: RV/Trailer Campsite review, (30) sites, Surface: Paved (good width with decent back-in ease), Electricity Hookup: all have 30 and 50 amp connection, Water Hookup: Yes, Sewer Hookup: No, Dump station: Yes, Grills/Fire Ring: Yes, Picnic Table: Yes, Comfort Station: Yes. Value = 6.0Secondary rating. Based on the good maintenance of the sites, good separation between sites, cleanliness of the comfort station, Laundry, campground wi-fi, and the overall value and appeal of park I added 2 points to the rating for an overall rating of 8.0This is a nice state park. I particularly like the paved RV/trailer pads. We stayed here 5/2013 for one night (30 Ft. travel trailer). If you like the activities they offer, canoeing, etc you might rate it higher
The cabins here were very nice. Made a racoon friend wich the kids thought was great. Great places for the kids to play. Took a canoe out for a different veiw of the park.
We loved our afternoon at Tickfaw. The boardwalks are outstanding, especially for a state park - very well-maintained and plentiful. This park is a must-see for those wishing to explore Louisiana swampland. The nature center is truly a gem - better than many stand-alone nature centers, in fact! Overall, the park offers many things found in the Everglades, without the price tag.
We stayed at the group camp to celebrate our Mom's 80th birthday. It was awesome!! We have a pretty big family, but the camp area is so big we weren't cramped for space at all. Everything was nice and clean, kitchen well equipped, outside area with deck and fire pit very nice. We will definitely be renting this again!!
Very pleased with this park. It is well maintained. Sites are large and have plenty of shade as well as fire rings and BBQ grills. Showers had good pressure and plenty of hot water. Great outdoor getaway.
