Windsor Castle Park is a wonderful place for a walk, through woods and fields, much of it overlooking the river. I have enjoyed its miles of trails in summer as well as winter. A nice winter walk is lovely when there is snow on the ground.
We were welcomed by a lovely person at the desk, who gave us copious info about Smithfield. Arts center is brill!
WE loved walking the trails, they are well maintained and have nice shade. There were a number of boardwalks that led to the water. Very enjoyable. There was a separate biking trail and an amazing dog park.
The park is a class act with wide walking trails around it's scenic landscape. No fear of ticks! There is a fishing pier, and state of the art kayak launch site and a dog park. Several super events are held on the park property during the year.
We take our dogs here all the time. We don't bother registering for the dog park though. As long as we keep our three dogs on leashes, we can take them on the trails. Our dogs love going for a nice long walk at the park. They are always excited and sleep well when we get home. I'm glad there is such a nice park to walk nearby!
The park is about 4 years old. The park is one of the best things to happen in Smithfield in years. It is very scenic. The land was donated by Joe Luter. It is a little over 200 acres. It has lots of trails, some for hiking and others for mountain biking. It has a separate dog park area. The trails are mostly in wooded areas. It has long wooden bridges along the creek. Fishing is available. It has multiple access areas where you can get into the park. My grandson loves it.What it needs are permanent bathrooms, picnic shelters and organized playgrounds, things that are planned in the near future. Also it has a few old historical buildings, other than Windsor Castle itself that need to be either repaired or torn down.
Just a few streets over from the shops along main street in Smithfield lies a park that has wonderful walking trails that wind along the waters edge, pass a small old cemetery, and lead you to a field between old barns where the beautiful historic "castle" lies. It has porta potties on site. Even though you should pack snacks and drinks before you come, if you forget to plan ahead it lies close to restaurants and shops that have food, drinks, and restrooms.
Wonderful place to walk, either alone, with friends, or with your dog. Quite large and scenic. And free!
We love it here, the views are some of the best around. The trail is laid out well and is accessible from downtown or S. Church St. We're fortunate to have such an incredible park in this location.
Such a beautiful area! We really enjoyed the boardwalk, and my mom was able to easily stroll with us on her electric scooter! There are several nature trails to enjoy...don't miss this on your visit to Smithfield, VA!!
