Offer a variety a trails at the top of the gondola. The Rabbit Run is great for young kids who want to hike but can't go to far. They also have a playground at the top of the gondola ride which is great.
We skied it the day after 3ft of powder - big area and need at least 3 days to fully do it justice. Good mix of runs plenty of restaurants
Trails from short to long, easy to hard. Right in Snowmass your surrounded by the trails, pick one and have fun.
Nice place for a 2 hour hiking (it depends on how much time you will spend taking pictures). Great views and easy trails. You can start from the Sleigh Ride Trail then continue through the Ditch Trail, and come back from the Nature Trail.
It is very nice to know that you don't have to go all the way into Aspen to get some great hiking. There is great trails right at the village and base!
We attempted to hike the Ditch trail with our teenage kids and started out at the trailhead near the parking lot. Once we hit the intersection of the ski hill, there were no signs or markings on where to go. We ended up taking a treacherous, icy climb down the hill, and followed an obvious path (most likely the dog sledding route) for about a half an hour. It was a beautiful hike, but I'm pretty sure we did not hike the actual "ditch trail" because we could not find it.
Very straightforward and easy to follow. You can take the chairlift up the mountain and take the trail down. I tried to take pictures of the bikers in my party, but it was tough to see them.
The rim Trail is a 8 mile or so trail down to a lake in the valley. It is a moderate trail. The views are spectacular as you're walking along the rim of the mountains overlooking Snowmass Valley.
Over spring break, we went to Snowmass to cross country ski at the nordic center (the golf course and clubhouse facility). The website showed a nice variety of trails, groomed for both classic and skate skiing. And the website showed good conditions and recent grooming. But when we arrived, there was a small, hand printed sign in the window of the center saying that the center and trails closed two days earlier. Sheesh, thanks for telling us. Only a short segment of groomed ski trail remained, and we spent 20 minutes skiing it back and forth for fun. But the rest of the trail network was destroyed by people and dogs walking all over it Disappointing. From what we saw, the center and trail network seem to provide excellent (and free) skiing when open. The only problem is that they close several weeks before the downhill ski hills close. Beware.
this trail gives you a view of Snowmass and Mt. Daly, it is an easy trail for kids or older adults, you can see the sled dogs at Krabloonik
