Everything is real. I was a witness in one of the last trials that was held there in the seventies. It all came back. She lost her case.
This venue was chosen by our daughter and her fiance for both their wedding ceremony and reception. Granted it wasn't her first choice, but other places in Minneapolis were booked and once they toured the site they were pleased. As far as I could tell, the caterers and the attendants that set up for the event found no faults with the site or management. I didn't get ready in the small room assigned to the bridesmaids, but it did seem a bit unaccomodating for them, yet I heard no complaints! They had a three piece string band performing from the front corner of the room for the ceremony. And made use of the sound system for the reception's recorded music. We didn't dance, and as you can see in the photos, the reception tables were already set up and used during the ceremony. But there was plenty of room to mingle. The bride and the groom each had 7 attendants, but they all squeezed in! Caterers used the kitchen and served from trays, as they circulated around the room. Hot Chocolate and Cider was serve yourself from the stations in the upstairs hallway, which was set up along with a table for gifts. None of these glogged the traffic flow. Attendance may have been just over 100 people, but they had planned on 200 guests. It was a beautiful warm wedding, even though the weather was bitterly cold. For an extra fee, the couple staffed the tour of the jail, for the curiosity of the guests!
The courthouse is the heart of the scenic and historic South Hill, a residentail neighborhood of old homes overlooking Stillwater and the St. Croix River.
had our wedding there and it was amazing. gorgeour setting and the staff was very helpful! all aroundwonderful experience.
Great tour of this historic courthouse. We decided to take the tour once we had driven by it on the narrated Trolley tour. Well worth the hour if you've got it. The restoration alone is worth seeing. All done locally. Makes you appreciate the rest of the restoration going on in the town.
We utilized the Historic Courthouse for our daughter's wedding reception July, 2012 with games outside and a meal then dancing upstairs. We opened the jail and had an interpreter available for tours which was well received. Overall, was a wonderful venue. The staff was great to work with and gave us a marvelous tour of the facility as part of our decision making process. The facility was great for our caterer and bartenders. The guests loved the location, the view and the venue. Bottom line: take a tour there sometime to learn the history, and if you need a place for a reception, including a wonderful lawn and gathering area strongly consider the Historic Courthouse.
great place to hold a special occasion. They are very easy to work with and it looks nice. You can bring in caters and also have bar services with Beer and Wine
We attended a family wedding here. The wedding was held outside and the reception, dinner and dance were held in the court room. Everything was clean and spacious. Just a beautiful place!
With downtown Stillwater being antiques, art galleries and restaurants, the courthouse is a true piece of history. Not too much left in the area that reflects such great history.
My son and I had a great tour of this historic courthouse thanks to our wonderful tour guide. Not only was she knowledgeable and friendly but accomodating too. With a six year old it can be hard but he put her to the test and she stayed with him through every silly question and benign observation.
