Rolled into town late in the evening and this was one of the only bars open. Came into Wandering Dog Bar and fell in love with the theme. The owners owned a dog that was the inspiration for their bar. The staff was average and so were the wines in my wine flight. For the price you would think the worker behind the bar would explain the origins or flavors of some of the wine... guess reading it off of the wine card yourself was sufficient.
We wandered in to the Wandering Dog because of my belief that a place that allows dogs is always good - and I was not wrong. Lucy, a black lab, greeted us as soon as we arrived - and I love it when people bring their dogs to work. The gal working the 'bar' was very knowledgeable in the wines and helped me to pick a flight that I would like. My husband chose to do the beer flight, which put him in absolute heaven. One thing that makes this place unique is that they offer not only cheese plates but also a cupcake plate (with cupcakes from a local bakery). I've never seen that at a wine bar but it's a great idea especially if you like desert wines and want desert to go with it. The Wandering Dog offers a nice, relaxing atmosphere with numerous options of beer and wine, and very delicious boutique wines that you wouldn't otherwise find. We enjoyed this place so much that we went back a second time during our stay - oh, and if you live in the area or expect to visit often, ask for a punch card. After 10 glasses or tastings, you get any glass of wine for $1!
Nice place to relax after walking the town all day. I love the name. Excellent service.
After a day of wine tasting in the Santa Ynez valley you may find yourself in Solvang and if you do and still want some more libations, go to the wandering dog. The reason for this is it isn't just wine. Our group was over having wine on a very hot day so we all got beer flights. Beer was great and from breweries all over the world. They also have champagne tasting that my fiance did on another visit last year. Very friendly staff as well
While Solvang and surrounding area are known for their wine, this location also serves an eclectic selection of foreign and domestic beers. Several of them I have not seen before. The beers are available as a sampler or sampler flight. I love the story of how the name came about.
After a disappointing drink at a place next door we decided to check out Wandering Dog and were very happy we did. This is a super cute nice little bar. Mostly bar seating with a few tables. We sat at the bar and I feel really bad that I do not remember the guys name that was helping us because he was awesome. He was very friendly, helpful and super knowledgeable. He knew everything about the wines and beers we were considering. I had an amazing sparking that I have never had before. It was from a local winery and ended up being one of the best things I tried during the weekend of tasting. The selection of wine is good, you can get a bottle, a glass or a flight. They also have beers, mostly interesting imports. The French beer we had was nice but we would have liked to see more local beers on the menu as well. I recommend stopping here to sample some wine and beers if you are in the area.
This place had great options for tastings.. lost of wine options and even champagne. The guy helping us.. I think his name was Russ... was very helpful and friendly, he gave us lots of helpful advice for our other tastings around town too. The cost of the tasting was a little pricey is you didnt buy a bottle though. Other than that this place was great

Lucy LOVES it whenI visit....and gets soooooooooo excited!!! Give myfriends and chance.....become a member....and you will NOT be disappointed at all!!!PS...they are next to Solvang Brewery and the Danish Bakery.....so GREAT spot in town!!!
Service is awesome. The wandering dog really is dog friendly and with our pooch lying at our feet we were able to do a wine and beer flight paired with cheese and chocolate. Fantastic experience and time. Its very central to Solvang and offers both indoor and outdoor seating (both areas are dog friendly). You'll discover something new in here for sure and if you like what you're tasting you can take a bottle or two home with you. Wandering dog is not a vineyard so offer a bunch of different local wines under a single roof. If you're in Solvang you must visit the wandering dog!
We visited the Wandering Dog for the second year in a row. We ordered what we thought would be a small wine and cheese plate to snack on with our wine. We were served a very large plate of delectable cheese, olives, salamis and crackers. It was fantastic and so large it nearly spoiled are dinner. It was not only great but a good value as well. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about wine. They also offer high end beer as well.
