It was an interesting place I can give it that - very historical and informative leaflets there. The issue I can make is not with the monastery - but I just don't like Symi! It's got lovely scenery but always feel claustrophobic when there. Everything is crammed round the edges where towns are concerned. Fortunately only here on a 1 day boat trip from Rhodes, which is lovely as we'll.
Well worth a visit. Avoid or wait until the day trip boats have gone. The mini bus ride from the harbour was bit hairaising
a monastry but not a lot else there perhaps we arrived at the wrong time. It was very busy and it does feel like your imposing on some of the true believers.
Interesting place, beautiful buildings. Nice handy taverna nearby. Very peaceful until the tourist boat casts of its cargo for visits. That's the time to leave
This monastary is the highlight of the short stay in Panormitis. Its bell tower outside stands as a focal point when you enter the harbour. Venetian style white washed buildings make up the view along the promenade which is a pretty sight as you scrabble for the best photo shot while the boat is manoevering to dock.Ladies have to cover their shoulders when entering the monastary which is free. Its very pretty inside and on occasions those who reside within the building will invite you in for coffee and cake. It is considered an insult to decline this offering and leaving a fw Euros after having done so is always appreciated. If you just want to view the inside of the monastary then its a beautiful sight with its ornate gold fixtures and fittings. Light a candle and leave it in the sand box or just admire its beauty. Along the harbour and just through a small walkway is a lovely bakery where you can purchase some fresh baked delicacies. A small shop is also situated on the harbour front.
We came in on a boat from Rhodes City after a stop in Symi City and stayed about an hour. It was packed with tourists all off the same boat, so getting into the main part was a queue and very crowded. It is a charming little place, with a couple of places to get some food and a small beach off to the side of the bay. Peaceful, even with a boatload of tourists wandering about.
far away from center. however there are tours which costed only 7€ with Marathounda Beacgh included. tours give you 2 hours to see around. there will be a que but tip: que is to see and kiss the icona, so ,if you are not intereseted with it, pass the que
We dropped anchor in Panormitis bay, so peaceful after the chaos that is Symi! Great walk around the harbour, goats galore and a great monastery. Well worth a visit.
İt takes 30-40 min by car to reach there, it is so interesting the area, church, but if u dont drive welldont rent a car to reach because the roads are too narrow and frightening , but I found the sights( some wievs of the Symie during driving ) more interesting than the church!
I came to Panormitis from Symi by a daily ferry tour. The monastery looks attractive from far and sidewise. There you can find a place where you drink and eat something near the monastery as well as time for swimming. The ferry stayed for one hour, this was enough for this place.
