The view was gorgeous and it was worth the stop. However, it was crowded. We had to only circle once to find a parking place -- I think it was luck ;-) The bathroom on the other hand was DISGUSTING -- per group member. They stated that it is just a hole in the ground with a toilet seat on it. No plumbing.
This lookout is only about 20-25 minutes off the main drag in South Lake Tahoe. It offers wonderful views of the bay below. Too bad pictures can't really capture how far down it really is to the lake below.
This is a stop not to be missed when driving to Emerald Bay. Amazing opportunities for pictures or to just take in Lake Tahoe's beauty!
This is an amazing place to see breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe. People were having a good time and there were a lot of people taking both photos as well as "selfies".There are views of Tannette Island - which is a small island in Emerald Bay section of Lake Tahoe. One can catch a glimpse (its back in the trees a bit) of the mansion Vikingsholm. The views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe are awesome. While we were there the Tahoe Queen., a day excursion boat, was taking its cruise through Emerald Bay at the time we were at Inspiration Point. This is well worth the drive of getting there, (Note: Take it slow and easy on this western side drive of Lake Tahoe in this area.) There are also restrooms for use.
We happened upon Inspiration Point last fall on our second day in South Lake Tahoe. As you ascend Emerald Drive before Inspiration Point, you may recognize the view from the movie "City of Angels." I love the view of Emerald Bay - the deep colors of the water reminded me of the Caribbean. If you are an amateur photographer, then this is the perfect place to photograph Emerald Bay in its entirety.
Unfortunately we went during the rain and a little bit of fog but once the sky cleared a bit the view from inspiration point was phenomenal. The whole drive down from the peak was also exceptional with lookouts on one side and the forest on the other. Absolutely beautiful scenery.
Stunning views of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. Hiking trails offer more great views of surrounding area. A must to see and experience.
When driving from South Lake Tahoe towards Emerald Bay, this is a stop not to be missed simply for the gorgeous views of the bay below. Positioned about 400 ft above, if you are patient enough to explore views from all nook and corner of this vista point, you can catch glimpses of Vikingsholm and the beach. Fannette Island is the most obvious feature and don't miss to use the installed telescopes to take a peek at the tiny tea house built on top of the island. The turquoise blue water , the carpet of trees and the spectacular view around are just out of the world. Parking is severely limited though and you might have to spend the better part of the time finding yourself a spot in the tiny off the road parking lot. Undoubtedly it is worth the wait. A little way down the Emerald Bay Road, try to stop at another unobstructed spectacular vista of the wide open Emerald Bay visible clearly from the road. The parking spot may be even more difficult to obtain here as it is just a simple parking lane beside the road that can hold a few cars. But if you can plan your drive towards the end of the day, you might just be lucky.
Parking : Plenty. Even on crowded 4th July. we were able to find a spot.View : This point could have been inspirational, if it wasn't obstructed by trees.while driving north from Inspirational point, there are few spots on road from where view is magnificent and unobstructed. Only catch is parking is very limited.
Between the majestic views and the wonderful smells You will think your a little closer to heaven! Don't miss it at all cost!
