We spent a delightful afternoon at the Chateau, mainly with a tour guide (which is the only way you can go inside). The history of the place is most impressive. The ceilings in each of the rooms were so unique and gorgeous. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed, so I couldn't take any photos of them.
During the Winter we wnt to visit telc Castle and the doors were closed whitout any info about visit possibilities. Bad situation, sade for State Castle, how they like to serve?
Chateau is one of the most beautiful in Czech republic, more than 60 Czech fairy tales were shooted here and a lot of history take place here. There is big collection of arts, weapons, throphies and most beautiful are decorative cellings. Interesting about them is that they are a lot motives against the church ( like burning pope, devil with symbol of founder of castle, jew riding the pig etc. ) . Definetly worth of visiting.
We took the guided tour of the Chateau in Czech and had a card to read in English. They do have English tours but we were only there for a few hours while passing through and did not have time to wait for the English tour. The guide was even helpful in talking to us in English to point out things. It is a beautiful place with lots of history and amazing artifacts from its Czech past. Beautiful paintings, woodwork, military items, and furniture. A lot has been restored as with most historic sites but it is also as original as possible. If you want they have books in English to fill in the blanks after the tour is over, and I bought several to read later. This is worth a visit and is the rest of the city.
Telc is such a small town, you can see it all. We did not go through a tour of the Chatueau (because of time), but enjoyed some of the grounds. We did, however, go up into the church tower there to see the huge bells and the magnificent views at the top. The countryside was beautiful! We felt we were looking out over a magical town, nearly expecting to see Willy Wonka at any moment!
Built in the 14th century, the State Chateau deserves a visit. Although the original building was Gothic, the owners invited Italian artists to make it a fine example of Renaissance architecture. Visiting the chateau is only possible with a tour group. There are two main itineraries. The first one is through the main rooms and the second to the private apartments. We took the first option and it was very interesting to see the interiors, which are decorated with sgraffito (a Renaissance technique that uses relief) or painted wooden panels, among other techniques. The tours are offered in Czech, German and English. Be aware that the guided visits in foreign languages are few and more expensive. We took the Czech language tour and were provided with an English text explaining the history and architecture of the building.
If you are in Telc, you can not miss the castle. It is nice and history is interesting.
Nice tour, not too long, interesting rooms, some very opulent. Most of the interior has been preserved in its original form. The Gold Room has a panel engraved ceiling complete with family portraits. The Blue Salon is also beautiful. There is also an African Salon with a collection of exotic hunting trophies from Africa. There is a large addition built and added seamlessly. The "remodeling" took many years. People were much more patient in those days. We took the shorter tour and skipped the residence of the last private owner the Podstatsky-Lichtenstein family that lived there until 1945.
My wife and I spent two days in and around Telc last month. We were pleasantly surprised that the castle and the surrounding grounds were so enjoyable to visit. There was an added bonus on the beautiful summer weekday that we visited of three young mimes that entertained the children and adults on the lovely grounds. We both thought that this visit added to our understanding of the interesting history of Telc.
In addition of visiting the central urban plaza in Telc, with the rows of picturesque renaissance houses, we went, accompanied by our tour guide, to see the State Chateau or Statni zamek Telc, that is located very near, to the west from plaza, toward the Telc Creek or rather we can name it as Telc Pond. There are three of them, that surround this old town quart. This Chateau is very attractive by its gothic style of architecture and You can see that original interiors are preserved in very good condition, that's only telling us about the very careful approach of the owners to its heritage. The most noticeable influence is of Italian art on the Czech territory and also of its variations in the area north of the Alps.Very nice, indeed, are the ceilings in every room, You pass through, painted and decorated in own way. So, You can perceive here the paintings, woodcarvings and trophies. Also, much impressive is the Golden Hall, stretching across the entire wing of the younger Renaissance Northern Palace, with some beautiful portraits of the local historic persons.Too, You may perceive the carvings on the squares of the waffle ceilings. These are the mainly figures of ancient gods and mythological heroes. There is a Church Tower, within the walls of the Chateau, that we mounted to take some wonderful view on the old town Telc and pleasant surroundings of the countryside, at the top of it.Not to miss when You are in Telc.
