I have always wanted to ride horses....never had the chance. But on this vacation, in my60's, i did and so glad we choose Davey Crockett Stables! The staff were friendly and helpful, they put me on a very gentle horse named "Blue" a Tennessee Walker, she took very good care of me.... I was instantly comfortable with her and the ride was AWESOME!!!!! Thank you to all at Davey Crockett Stables!!!! I would come back again!Mattawan, MI
Nice ride, nice horses. Guide, Josh was personable, friendly, funny.Everyone that works there is friendly. Good safe, slow ride for the kids if you are thinking about it
The people were so nice. They make you feel welcome right away. The horses are well trained, and the trails are fun. Overall I really enjoyed riding here.
My family and I wanted a horseback ride away from the hustle and bustle of town. Davy Crockett Stables was perfect. We rode up and down hills, through the trees and it was so peaceful! If you are looking for more "touristy" things to do around a stable this is not the place. However, if you want a great ride with beautiful scenery through the Smoky Mountains, I highly suggest Davy Crockett Stables. The horses were great, even for my 7 year old daughter. Rhonda was a great guide.
After researching area stables, I decided to make an appointment for an hours ride. Had not ridden in years, so I approached it with a bit of anxiety though some of this was relieved when I called to make the appointment and talked with one of the guides. The horses all seem healthy and content though in just a bit of need of brushing. My guide was Rhonda and the choice of a horse for me was a perfect fit. I was the only rider at that time so I had the benefit of asking all the questions that were on my mind and could not have enjoyed the ride more. It is worth noting that tips are not included in the price of the ride so I would recommend having adequate money on hand for that purpose or be able to add it to your credit or debit card. I will definitely return for a longer ride.
Five stars for the riding experience, but the customer service and instruction were a big minus. We came here as first-time riders, not knowing what to expect. On the website, it said that walk-ins are welcome so we decided to just drive over there, as we were staying nearby. We were "greeted" by an extemely grumpy person, who later also turned out to be our guide. It soon became clear that walk-ins are NOT welcome. However, she murmured that we could get our one-hour ride in ten minutes. She then murmured the price and went on to charge us. All in all, she spoke very little and did not make us welcome at all.We sat on the table five minutes or so. She then came out and gave us a riding lesson. This was done in ca. 15 seconds. On the saddles we went, and then sallied forth on our horses. We felt very unconfortable, being clueless abour riding on horseback and next to no instructions what to do. However, everything turned out to be rather intuitive and easy, although we went over some pretty steep hills and rough terrain. The horses were really nice and towards the end of the ride, we sat confortably on our saddles! So, if you want to go there, call ahead and reserve and ride. But there are probably other stables nearby that have nicer persons working. I would not go back to Davy Crockett, although the horseback riding experience itself was nothint sort of awesome!
This was my first time in east TN and my friend and I were looking forward to a relaxing weekend in the mountains. We just wanted to hike and see some wildlife. What better way to do that than on horseback? I must have read a thousand reviews about 7 or 8 stables in the area and this place had nothing but positives. For good reason! We rode for 1 1/2 hours with our guide Kelly. She was a great conversationalist! She put us on horses that fit our experience level. As she put it, she gave us something "with a little bite" and we weren't disappointed! My girl Sheba was just as sassy as I am and we got along great :) We are already planning our next trip around a half day or even and overnight ride. I highly recommend this stable!
We enjoyed the ride but our lady guide was a bit 'whip happy' with her "lazy" mare. She was forever kicking the mare on and using her reins as a whip. Bullied animals turn off to such abuse, and it is abuse. The mare went no faster when the lady stopped her nagging, so I'm guessing the rider needs a polite reminder that it is her that needs more training, not the mare. If the mare isn't right then find one that is, but please don't bully.Aside from that, all was pleasant. The animals are somewhat unkempt but have good weight and are sturdy. My review would have been 5 stars bar the bullying of the mare :o (
My eleven year old son, boyfriend and I went for an hour. The guide was so sweet and personable. She was great with giving my son directions when he needed them. The trails were really neat and authentic trials right thru all the trees up and down. We really got the lead the horse rather than just "hold on". We even got to run with them for a short time in the field if we wanted to. That was a blast! Beautiful trail outside of all the hustle and bustle with a nice country drive to the stables. Great price with a military discount too!
Kelly was our guide and she was amazing - and a great conversationalist. Even though the trail was a bit muddy from some recent heavy rains, we had a great time.
