The theater is a wonderful place for performing arts. The stage is quite large in relation to the seating. Every seat is terrific, up close, personal and comfortable.
I have gone to the Performing Arts Center multiple times to hear Irish musicians. The acoustics are great. It's very comfortable and I enjoy the historical pictures in the hallway. I am planning on seeing one of the upcoming musicals at the Arts Center. I look forward to it.
Great little community theatre with excellent directors and casts. Loved Carousel over the summer. Only wished they had microphones for their actors.
Went here to see 'The Boyfriend' (with friends). The theatre itself was hard to find (we'd started the evening on Tarpon's Main Street with a pleasant pre-show soiree). We found ourselves walking through a rather dicey area we hadn't realized exists on our way from Tarpon Ave. to the theatre which is in City Hall. I've been to many theatres and this one is large and comfortable enough to be considered a local 'plus'. The production needed another low microphone or two on-stage but was worthy of the ticket price. Recommend you 'check it out' when there's a play or production you'd like to see.
Very nice theater in Tarpon Springs. Well kept, professional, and a good variety of nice shows. Very enjoyable venue.
Tarpon Springs at tarponarts.org, offers many entertainment options. I have been to several. Today I heard the above group from Valencia, Spain. The first half of their program featured music I did not know, but the 2nd half, being that it is near Christmas, featured Christmas carols, and I do mean carols, like What Child is This?, Fum, Fum,Fum, and others, not Jingle Bells or other very secular Christmas or winter songs. The arrangements were very creative and clever. There was nothing boring about this concert. These are very talented and well trained musicians. This group was not listed in the official Tarpon Springs entertainment booklet but was added online fairly recently. It's too bad that the auditorium was not packed with listeners. It was a very worthwhile concert. I think that may be because it was not advertised earlier in the official offering booklet. The Performing Art Center is in the building which also houses the mayor's office and other official offices. I hope the community supports this venue. We live 15 miles north of Tarpon Springs and find this area a good alternative to driving an hour or more to hear professional musicians play in Clearwater or Tampa.
A conversion of the old high school to performing arts center.. This is a gem for a small town. various types of shows presented throughout the year. Keep and eye on the schedule and you are sure to find something that interest you
Tarpon Springs, Florida is well known for its "sponge docks", an area which promotes the Greek community's sponge diving with many gift shops featuring guess what, sponges! Greek restaurants are also present but recently I learned about their performing arts center which has a series of shows at reasonable prices held most of the year in two small theaters. This season we attended shows at the theater in the former city hall and an adjacent building now called the cultural center. We saw The Brothers Four one night, a couple brass quintets on two nights and yesterday we watched Cirque Zuma Zuma, described as an African Cirque Soleil. (sp?) That show was sold out. It was a great evening. Our experiences have always been positive. Tickets can be bought and seats are reserved in advance. Street parking is free and easy to find close to the building. There's a small parking lot, too. I'm already looking forward to our next visit.
Whether it is a solo musicians or singer or an ensemble in a play or a band, the shows are always well staged and most entertaining at a modest ticket price. I like Sunday afternoon performances best. My favorite this season was 39 Steps played by just 4 actors...lots of movable sets and props and costumes and hair pieces. Delightful. Of marvelous re-purposing as the venue was a school.
Recently went to see excellent performance of The Pirates of Penzance. Wonderful actors, music & singing by the cast of all ages! Real gem of a theater for a small community.
