An hour's drive north of Orlando if you are staying south of the city, but well worth the drive there. The course is not easy, especially if you play from the back tees, with water hazards on every hole. Wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife, including bald eagle, but as one previous contributor wrote; no deer! No problem with slow play, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. If you are driving up from the south and have time, stop off in Mount Dora on the way back for a coffee and cake; a wonderful little gem of a town.
Had a great round of golf there on 7th October 2014, very friendly people, great scenic course in good condition, lots of wildlife. Will definately return soon.
We had a golf groupon and drove up from our vacation spot in Orlando to golf at Deer Island. It was a scenic course that was enjoyable to play. There was water on every hole, but we didn't get into too much trouble. Check out the many discounts available if you are planning to play this course. Rangers and pro shop staff all very friendly.
Some of the golf courses here are showing signs of stress. This one has beautiful fairways and the traps have great sand. As much as we try to avoid them, it is nice to have actual sand to hit out of. The greens were a little slow. Overall course is in great shape. Will definitely go back:)
You will enjoy a day of golf here. The scenery is beautiful. Not easy but enjoyable. There is a lot of water on the course which adds to the beauty and the challenge.
What a beautiful course!! Water and sand abounds on practically every hole (bring a few extra golf balls). And if you like wildlife you will love this course. There are many species of birds and plenty of gators! I like this course as a change of pace. You will want to leave your driver in the bag on a number of tees. Definitely recommend this course.
In a beautiful setting.so peaceful.lots of wildlife, including bald eagles and many other birds...oh and not to mention a 10 ft gator.Course in great nick, lots of water and sand.Away from tourist area, hence really good value.CLub house and food great .Really friendly.WOuld love to play again sometime
My son comes up from Tampa to play this course. He enjoys it tremendously. He likes everything about it. ( Just to let you know it is in the process of being renamed.)
we played at this place at end of Feb, 2014, it was really nice place to play with water hazards every where. green was a little slow. being in the middle of nowhere,it was not crowded. it took almost an hour to drive from Kissimmee area but it was worth. I wouldn't mind play as many as I can if it was short driving distance. the staffs were friendly as well compare to some other Orlando area clubs.
I found this course to be very challenging. Oddly I had no trouble with my drives (many start over water) but my short game was poor. I rented clubs, and they were nothing special. Lots of gators - be careful/respectful! Beautiful scenery, wildlife, and a heck of a good challenge. The course didn't blow me away, because, honestly I think it should or could be in better shape. Specifically the greens. The layout is fun, but you seems to zip all over the island. I had the pork sandwich before I went out - very tasty!Although the course was nearly empty, I still had to wait for the few people that were on. I could see one couple ballroom dancing on their hole, and the couple ahead of me, well, they were just taking their time. Lots of it. Worth doing if you are nearby!
