I say surprise because this is Minnesota wine, but we found out this wine is excellent. They offered a wide variety of wines to taste, music, and wine stomping. Fun stop and great pouring hosts. We enjoyed Mountain Sweet Red and LaCrescent.
The tasting room is small but there is plenty of space outside. They bring your wine tastings out to you, quite promptly. It was 5 dollars which included 5 wine samplings, the glass, cheese and crackers. I found it very reasonably priced (even cheaper than most other wineries for what you get). We both really liked the wines, decided to purchase a glass and check out the grape vines. The owner was very nice, brought us some grapes to taste, very friendly. It was a very casual atmosphere, not pretentious, which is what I enjoyed the most. They have only been open 2 years and have accomplished great things, it will be exciting to see them grow.
Local wineries are becoming common in this area. The use of Minnesota grapes is popular but often the wine can be too thin or unbalanced. Wild Mountain makes some really good wines that show their commitment to quality and drinkability. Do a tasting, you won't be disapointed!
Wild Mountain Winery is a little out of the way but absolutely worth the trip. We had a wine tasting which included five different wines plus small bites to enhance the flavors of the tasting. Servers were absolutely charming and informative. Very pleasant way to spend an afternoon and highly recommended.
Very enjoyable tasting experience we purchased through Groupon. The tasting was served by staff at a table either inside or out. We chose outside because of beautiful Saturday afternoon weather. Our server (adult son of the owners) was very knowledgeable and attentive. We were never left waiting. The wines were very nice and a step up from some wineries we have visited. We took a self guided tour through the vineyard which was interesting and with a bit of education on signs at various stops along the way. It was only about 1/4 mile long and if you pay attention to the signs it will result in a discount on wine purchases. We enjoyed a glass of wine accompanied by live music which was very good and relaxing. This was outside in very pleasant surroundings. As we left we purchased a few bottles of our favorites while tasting. The prices were quite reasonable compared to other wineries we have visited. We will return!!
This is one of my favorite spots to go visit! Been there with friends and it was one of two wineries on my 40th birthday itinerary in September 2014. I had called to let them know a large group was coming, but they must not have gotten the message because they didn't seem too pleased to see us at first, however, after purchasing around 14-18 bottles of wine to enjoy on at the winery while listening to their live band I don't think they were too upset to have us after all! Love that the vineyard is so accessible to the tasting area. Love being able to taste outside and relax too. Saturdays in the summer live music is a huge plus--and being a birthday girl I got to sing with the band (sorry to those that had to listen, but everyone looked to be having a good time!) Love that they have expanded their tasting room and the ambiance is incredible--very rustic which totally fits with the surroundings!
We found out about this winery because we purchased a Groupon for the tasting with food pairing. It's a cute winery. Lots of tables & chairs outside(along with the traditional tasting rooms) and they bring the tasting to you. We had amazing friendly service from everyone we came in contact with. The staff member that did our tastings was the owner's Granddaughter. She was great. We enjoyed lots of great wines and ended up loving the Frontenac Gris. Of course we had to take a few bottles home. We will definitely go back and have been telling our friends to check it out.
We found this winery kind of by accident as we were driving to the Chateaux St.Croix winery. This winery has a scenic drive in through a wooded area. The tasting room is tiny so they had us sit outside and brought the wine to us to sample. They also gave us some Gouda cheese and crackers. The wine tasting is $5.00/7 wines but as a couple you can choose to taste all the wines by having each person taste a different wine. (which we did) We weren't impressed with any of them except the port.I think this winery has the potential to become a more fun one to visit. The grounds are not kept up very well where we sat. Some music on the little wooden platform would really add a lot.We did venture into the vineyard which was one of the most well maintained one we have seen.
Great winery. Wine tasting reasonable and you can even keep the glass. The Frontenac Gris is excellent.
I have been to wineries in Australia, Chile, Argentina and California so I wasn't expecting to learn anything new but the presentation was very good and I did learn new things, especially about Minnesota wines. And the wines we tasted were very good. My only suggestion would be to dress warmer than I did. It was freezing!
