Just like the 1960's except updated. Excellent venue for a show. The decor is stunning, seats comfortable although not a lot of leg room. Try for an aisle seat to stretch the legs.
Brought our two daughters to see Jaws on the big screen. So much fun to see it here, eat popcorn & enjoy the Warner's atmosphere! Great to be able to watch movies at a very reasonable price!!!
Since this is where I live I'm a bit more biased and critical. The Warner however is not something I would be critical of. As one of if not the oldest theaters in the country, it is a fantastic place to see a concert, play, ballet etc. The Nutmeg ballet puts on many shows as well as having a school here. They do a great job. As for concerts, many popular acts come to Torrington. I've seen many concerts here and it is a great place to see one.
I didn't know what to expect the only are community theater I have been to was Long wharf in New Haven (which is excellent). but this show was the last day matinee of an Arthur Miller play. tickets were $26.00, venue is small, sets are of simple design but it's the over all theater feeling you come away with....Is it Broadway no, do you expect it to be no! it's located in downtown Torrington which has a few thrift stores, restaurants, gift stores all appearing clandestine but none of this is so. yes it is a step back in time to when cities had thriving downtown businessesthe play was excellent, you could see the hard work the actors put into it. I loved it can't wait to see what's next a musical or concert maybe.....
Whether it be a concert a play or a movie the Warner theatre is an excellent night out. Staffed mostly by volunteers it is a wonderful experience.
Great venue, never knew is existed until we saw a show there, what a great area looks like it can be fun, looking forward to seeing other entertainment.....
I have attended many different performances at the Warner and I am never disappointed. The theater is just beautiful, restored some years ago to the same beauty it had when it was built, just walking in is an amazing experience. My fiance and I went to a show earlier this year, which was her first time going to the theater. She has attended many broadway performances, and commented on how the Warner is nicer than any broadway theater she has seen. The performances are always excellent, the sound quality of the theater helps to make it a great experience. If you have the opportunity, take the time to see a show here. There are many local restaurants you can hit for dinner before a show, making it the perfect night out. The Warner is, without question, a real gem.
When I was a kid, we used to go here to watch movies for $.99 and we saw cartoons beforehand. It was a beautiful theater, including the ceiling. Throughout the years, the theater became run-down. Yet in recent years, it has been remodeled, including the ceiling. I have no idea how they worked on the ceiling, yet it looks just as good as in its heyday. Even the restrooms are restored, partly with marble, and it looks like something out of the Grand Hotel. The walls, chairs and balcony have all been beautifully restored. They no longer show movies here, although they did a short time ago. Now you can see plays and concerts. If you would like to see a show in the ambiance of a historical mansion, that's the only term I can think of to describe it, please visit Warner Theater.
The theater is wonderful and a beautiful space for a play. I did a childhood play and graduated there, and they were certainly incredible in that space!
We were lucky enough to visit the Warner Theater last week, to see the Beach Boys. In addition to enjoying a great show, being in this restored theater was a treat in itself. We had terrific seats up front, so I can't comment on visibility, but the seats were comfortable, the staff friendly, and the setting beautiful. Torrington itself seemed to be hopping as well -- next time we will come early and have dinner locally.
