Visited Mermet Springs as a detour to a wedding. It was the wife's first trip out since earning her C card. The facilities are excellent and the diving was top notch. We happened to be there on a Thursday and don't think there was more than 20 people diving. It never felt crowded in the water or in the prep areas. As for service, we mostly dealt with Bonnie. She was SUPERB. She acquired the rental gear we needed and even procured a piece of equipment to complete my personal gauge set. If we needed it or wanted it, Bonnie found it and delivered it. The diving was great, but the service is what will bring me back.
First time at Mermet Springs September 2013.And it was a great experience!Staff very friendly, helpful and really knows their diving! The grounds are well maintained.Very easy entry/exit points from the quarry.Very big catfish and quite a number of paddlenose fish as well!!A very enjoyable time and experience at Mermet Springs!Cannot wait until the next trip to Mermet Springs!!
We came in during the week and scuba dived for two days. The staff was wonderful, friendly and always willing to help out. The facilities are well maintained, the visibility was good and we had a great time finding all of the items in the water. Bring your cold water gear, I can't remember my hands being so cold and I was using 3 mil gloves (use 7 mil now).
I did my check-off dives here this weekend, and it was a great spot! The staff is extremely helpful, and they take care of you here. Amp round to have their stamp as the first in my dive log!
Fun days are had at Mermet Springs! Rock to the music underwater while you swim the roped leads to the various underwater attractions, such as a school bus, the plane from US Marshalls (movie), a Cessna, motorcycle, ambulance, and so much more! Great times, and even snacks available. Learn to dive, or just discovery scuba and see if you like it! All the equipment you need, pavilions to set up in, and even some paddlefish to swim past! They even have an underwater "petting zoo"! Great staff, friendly people all over, and good times by all! Plus, close to Harrah's in Metropolis for a little after-dive brunch and gaming!
My wife and I spent the last weekend in September here getting our PADI Open Water Certification. We have traveled down from St. Louis with the Great American Dive Company (GADC) to complete our open water dives. Mermet Springs (MS) is fantastic!!! I had an issue with my GADC rental dry suit neck seal so the GADC called down to MS a day early and arranged for the necessary part to be ready to go when I arrived on Saturday morning. After check in the nice lady working the front desk pointed me in the right direction and one of the MS staff members got me sized up and on my way quickly. They have covered paviliions you can use for setting up your gear and they have all of the facilities you need, including rental gear and air fills. They also have a food shack the serves lunch and a small store to supply you with the essential gear should you have an issue. There is no potable water on site so be sure to bring your own drinks. MS receives a lot of attention for the attractions in the water and righfully so, however, in my opinion the best part about diving here is the people. Everyone was friendly and willing to help and we will definatley be back.
Whereas it has been a couple of years since I have conducted a dive at Mermet I can tell you, having hit some dive sites world-wide, Mermet Springs has the friendlist staff, the cleanest facilities and some fantastic underwater attractions. Some sites sport a cople of attractions, Mermet has them all. They are also a full service site offering equipment, clothing and safe fun. Disclaimer: the review required a date of last visit, but I was not there in Nov 2013. I think the last time I was on site was July 2013.
We have taken our scouts here twice in the last two summers to learn to Scuba Dive. They are a first class operation.
Spent the weekend diving at Mermet Springs. The owners Glen & P.J as well as their staff are fantastic!! Offering a full service dive facility and onsite camping. Easy access, hot showers, food hut offers yummy eats. Informative local establishments. Fish galore, many dive exhibits, and paddle fish/spoonbills. Will return soon to dive again!!!
This is my first time diving at Mermet and of the quarries I have been to, this one is tops. While the water isn't super clear today, the water has easy access and I love the way they have marked all the underwater items, including rope guidelines from item to item with signage telling you what you are heading for. The underwater music is another plus. And the water is warm...at least until you hit the thermocline! I forgot to bring a towel and the staff was happy to loan me one. If you are going to dive a quarry, this is THE place to do it.
