A fabulous tourist spot. The mural is amazing. There is a good restaurant and souvenir shop. Lovely walking country around it.
The paintings are not very good and for sure no artistic highlight, the subject of prehistorical history is visualized rather childish and stereotype. It does not add any knowledge to what is common known. The location though is very nice, and it is worth to walk 20 minutes up from here to the Mirador, from where you have a beautiful view at the valley, the lakes and the mountains. Here you can drink a cold cocktail and make a walk back to Vinales at the backside of the mountains, along a beautiful rural path.
While the creator might be proud on this grotesque wall painting I am not. The great limestone wall in the Vinales valley was painted with figures of the past (prehistoric humans, dinosaurs, etc.).The painting looks like a sketch that a few-year-old would make in the kindergarten. It is humongous and covers a really big wall. It just dishonors the valley.
So someone (I asked a local and he just said "some people from Havana") went out to the countryside, removed the vegetation from part of a mogote (limestone formation) and splashed paint on it then added some very crude human and dinosaur forms. It's large. The locals seemed as puzzled by it as I was. More puzzling is that it actually gets treated as an attraction. Go to Vinales for the people and the countryside. Skip this.
The so called prehistoric murals have, as they honestly admit on one of the plaques, in reality been painted in 1960. It is very a poor attempt to recreate the past. And although the owners (?) of the place profit handedly from all the busses that stop, it is a shame that they even charge an admission fee. If you can arrange your own schedule make a great berth around this one.
This is ridiculous and maybe therefore worth a visit depending on what kind of tourist you are. Naivist paintings destroying the landscape might be one of Celia Sanchez' worst ideas
A very big and colourful mural that was not really prehistoric. It was very well done and must have taken forever to complete, It is a long way out of town and we took a taxi, however we saw lots of people walking.
You can see this fairly well from road before you get to cliffside. Not worth a detour or an entry fee in my opinion.
This is a modern painting which bears the name prehistoric mural. It is nice to walk in the valley. The landscape is great. But is is not worthwhile to make a detour just to see the huge painting.
It is just painting on the wall of mountain. If you are there, do not get too close - it looks much better from a distance. Although the painting itself is not so interesting, the views of the valley in this area are beautiful and therefore it is still worth to visit.
