Great a stroll with a friend and family! Lots of ducks, swans and birds to keep the little ones happy.
Easy walking around the lake. Lots of ducks, geese and swans to feed. An the occasional pukeko ! The local Wanganui New World sells large bags of stale bread for $1 to feed the ducks. My grandkids love going there especially after tea in the summer.
Hundreds of ducks and swans to feed your leftover crusts and bread. Very pretty walk around the lake
:-) love this lake.Lovely scenic walk. Lots of ducks to feed. Not impressed by the swans but that is a personal preference. They scare the crap out of me :-)
I have visited Virginia Lake many times over the years. It is one of Wanganui's gems and every season in the year reflects different aspects of its beauty and charm. For children there is the opportunity to feed the ducks while for those more interested in New Zealand's native bird life there are families of pukeko at different locations around the lake plus trees and flowers in garden areas that are well maintained no matter what time of the year you come to visit. The Winter Gardens are a special feature of this location and if you are in no particular hurry there is a coffee shop available as well along with clean and tidy rest rooms. No visit to Wanganui is complete without a relaxing walk round this lake. I've done it so many times it is easy to take it for granted but it is a real gem and worth every minute of your time spent visiting there.
You will find a well cared for lake walk (a slow 45min walk around or a fast 15 minutes if you are up to it, the ever popular "winter" gardens which are a delight year round and the bird aviary as well as life size bronze statuary. The Lake walk has several levels and abounds with bird life and plantings. It is a respite for locals and travelers as well! If needed there is a quaint coffee/tea room and the requisite loos are available. Great stop if you are on a long dri=ve from Palmy to Welly!
We stopped her for lunch on a very hot day & sat at a lovely tree shaded table. We both ordered a BLT which was far from average & served with slices of avocado & a very tasty relish. Service was quick & pleasant. We were not in a hurry to leave as we were enjoying the surroundings as much as the food!
Lovely stroll with good walkways suitable for buggies, walkers and all ages. Established gardens and trees surround pretty lake. If you have time worth the stroll.
Great place to go for a walk nice scenery and you meet friendly people on the way round. Good range of bird life and of course thousands of ducks to keep you company. Good café nearby for after your walk.
We walked to the lake from the motel and it was a lovely walk. There is a Dairy on the way too to get an icecream or a drink.
