The Warren Store is typical of the small, general stores in a number of small, Vermont communities. Lots of goodies to check out. A few craft type items and some food stuff. If you've been to others you can skip this one unless you need something, but if you haven't been to another, its worth the stop, if nothing more than to browse.
First of all the food you get from here is fabulous. The deli is in the back and you can eat at some cool make shift tables inside if you want. They have wonderful clothes upstairs. very eclectic place.
This is a good stop if you need to pick up a few things after you have been skiing one of the mountains. They make their own bread and baked goods. The cookies were awesome. The back of the store has old time refrigerator style doors to get local cheeses, beer and other things. People were friendly and welcoming to us as tourists. Plenty of candy too for the kids and granola bars. It seems to be the spot after 3 or so where everyone picks up something!
Came here for lunch during an end of summer weekend trip. The store has outdoor seating by a stream and great sandwiches and foods including veggie options. Loved the food and the ambiance! Also has souvenirs and local VT products. I definitely would come back.
Go there - you won't regret it! Buy yourself a sandwich, ours was a great BLT, something for dessert and a drink and go have a really great picnic somewhere!
I live 1.5 miles from this place, and have to say it is one of the 10 reasons i bought my house here in Warren. I first dipped my toes in the Warren Store waters 15 years ago with the hot beans & keilbasa mix they do on weekends. It brings back memories of my dad's recipe back in Michigan.I haven't been in about a month so i stopped in today and picked up lunch for my office - the #6 sandwich is a little taste of thanksgiving any day of the year you want it: turkey, cranberry mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions...yum. If only they could put stuffing on it.I also picked up a double chocolate chip cookie and 2 4 packs of craft beer that is hard to find elsewhere (Green Flash West Coast IPA and Finch's Beer Co' Threadless IPA).The deck overlooks the kids brook that flows into the Mad River and is a great place to enjoy lunch. They have a great wine selection and the store upstairs has some really unique and funky clothing, gifts and jewelry my wife likes. If you come anywhere near the Mad River Valley, anytime of the year, you MUST stop here.
Darnn good sandwiches at a reasonable price. The coffee was a little ho-hum, but the local produce was particularly good.
The general store on the first floor was busy, so we popped upstairs and were delighted with the clothing selection upstairs. Downstairs they have a nice selection of sandwiches and take away selections.
On Friday, July 19 we visited the store which is across the street from the Pitcher Inn. Although, there are two levels to the store, what drew us in was the great deli that they have in the back of the store. For a Friday, the place was booming ... And we thought we would have to wait a while to get our sandwiches ordered and made up. This was not the case. We were out of the store in a matter of minutes with our delicious sandwiches and lunch in tow.The price for these two sandwiches were very economical. Considering that we toured the Shelburne Museum on that hot and humid day. Our appetites were satisfied until it was time for supper. When we return to Warren, VT for our next visit. We will be sure to look this deli up again.
The only problem with the Warren Store is that there's so much tempting food there, and you might end up spending the whole day inside, instead of exploring the beautiful surroundings. Between our friends we tried all the special soups that day, and each was interesting and very tasty. After an afternoon of skiing we returned to find a chocolate and wine tasting, both of which were friendly and excellent. An absolute jewel of a place, and definitely highly recommended for lunch options.
