Nice, level campground-great for kids to ride bikes. Shady and spacious sites. Pretty pond/lake and pavilions. Lots of Spanish moss and a few trails to explore. The ranger was very friendly. This was a great place to get away for a couple days and relax.
I took my little boy camping one weekend. We went hiking and bbq'd. It was a very quiet area and enjoyed our experience.
Pleasant staff and a cozy campground. Road into camping area might be tight for a large rig, but overall a nice facility with a partially wooded camping area. Rain might turn some areas a bit muddy but the quaint Spanish Moss and older trees make up for any downside. Park office and lake is nice, wish we had more time to stay here to check the rest of the facility out.
My family and I had the luck to choose this from all the available parks on the East coast of the U.S. It was such a memorable experience that my children not only didn't want to leave, but now while staying at a 5-star hotel, they want to go back. Zabo and the guys were fantastic and the cabins are clean and homely. The lake is beautiful and my two girls loved the whole experience. Even after 11 hours driving from NY, all they can think about is returning to this wonderful Southern hospitality. We WILL be back.
We stayed 2 nights in the primitive tent sites. The sites were not on top of each other but we were lucky not to have anyone staying on either side. Boat rentals were cheap ($5) and the park rangers were very helpful. Can't wait to get back to this little hidden gem!
We live in Sumter, so this is only a short drive from our house. The park is well maintained and has a lot to offer. We spend most of our time on the trails and they are all well maintained. I have friends who mountain bike and there is plenty of that in the area as well, though that cost a little extra. There are boats to rent and a very nice area to picnic by the lake. We plan on going back often.
Nice nature trails. Pedal boat, canoe, & jon boat rentals for just $5. The park ranger was very helpful. Great trip all around! We look forward to going back often!
My family and I go throughout the year. We love hiking the trails and taking pictures of the scenery. Warning: beware of ticks. They are plentiful.
Wonderful and plentiful hiking/biking trails. Nice lake to paddle around and fish. Fully furnished cabins to rent for the night, weekend, or by the week. Water and electric sites for camping. Also rustic and group campsites.. Very clean bath houses. The campground is very quiet and the sites are large. You are not on top of your neighbor. In the 1st loop there is a big enclosed shelter with fireplace for the campers to enjoy. Friendly and knowledgeable rangers. On the hilltop there are shelters for picnics and one large shelter with two fireplaces to rent for larger groups. This park is a great place for a nice, quiet weekend or weeks get-a-way.
This is a great state park. It's located near Shaw AFB outside of Sumter. I visited the park with a friend to bike. The trails are well marked and well tended. The ranger at the main office was quite helpful. The office itself is a tribute to the CCC program with several historical markers and photos. I will visit this park again.
