This library has so much to offer everyone of all ages. There is a great children's section, with comfortable seating pods for reading, an aquarium, and a room for playing and using your imagination. There is a media room with hundreds of movies and books on tape. Computers are available to the public and also a 3-D printer for making your own designs. You can find a small art gallery at one end of the building and a doughnut/coffee shop at the other end. The library includes a small auditorium for lectures and shows. Of course there are books, books and more books! The genealogy department is one of the most visited in the U.S. It is prized for the amount of resources available. It has an easy access underground parking garage and offers outdoor activities in it's plaza. Located within walking distance of many restaurants, the Grand Wayne Center, the Embassy Theatre and Parkview Field.
This library is one of the treasures in Ft. Wayne! People come from around the world to do genealogical research. Children are excited by the resources provided to them. The library welcomes serious readers as well as those who just want to read today's newspapers. But the biggest treasure is the library staff members in all the different departments whose commitment to reading is contagious with the patrons they serve.
I love the Allen County Library system here! It is the best! the staff are wonderful and they have so much under one roof! This library is the 2nd largest genology library in the world and provide assistance to those who need help getting started, free access to ancestry.com and loads of other helps. The children's department is great! I love to take my children to their annual puppet show.
The Downtown branch of the Allen County library is wonderful for avid readers. The special exhibits have been good to see to. I helped my parents with some genealogy search and the amount of information is just so vast.
My mother and I have been visiting the ACPL for twenty years and live over two hours away. The library had a renovation several years ago and the Genealogy department, always awesome but crowded, is lovely these days. Our only complaint is that if you use Ancestry.com for your family tree, you cannot log into your own account on site. We spoke with the library staff, and the actually said that we would "need to go outside, log into ancestry on another wifi account, and come back in with the computer on." What a hassle! Especially when there isn't any other easily accessible wifi nearby. It's terrific that they have access when you're in the library and not an Ancestry account holder, but there must be some way to allow guests to log into their accounts. There is also a small Dunkin' Donuts coffee shop on site, which is wonderful when you're there researching for the whole day and need lunch. We love it.
we have the second largest genology department in the united states. People come from all over to just visit that department
Only down side to the awesome library is the amount of homeless people who make this their daytime home. They really stink up the place and make you feel uncomfortable. They also use the bathrooms as their own bathroom. The positives out weigh the negative. Lots of security people on scene. Spacious throughout the library. The leader in Genealogy department. Easy parking in the onsite parking garage. Well worth a look see if you are in town.
This library was refurbished a few years ago, and what a beautiful place it is! I went for a concert on 01/11/15 (baroque chamber music) and had a wonderful time! The auditorium accommodated 400 people and had wonderful acoustics. Large enough for seating yet with an intimate feel, perfect for this type of concert. After the concert I decided to wander around. So many books, so little time! Such a wonderful multimedia section! I am so impressed with the library and can't wait for the next concert!
i absolutely love this library and all of its branches. I live out of town but close enough to use its facilities w/ a PLAC card that I pay for. It's worth the cost b/c of all of the materials available. Always clean, spacious. Friendly staff in every department. Mary Voors and Miriam Rose are esp. helpful in children's dept. Must do with kids! The genealogy dept is world-famous for its vast amount of materials and informative staff.
I think the ACPL is great! I don't get to the amazing downtown branch very often, as I live close to the Dupont location. If I find an item that I want, during an online search, they will save it for me, not matter which location it is from. That is great service. And you can't beat the price:)
