This is a great place to explore over lunch, the walkways are so easy to follow. The view looking back at Wilmington is very nice. The flowers are very beautiful.
Great place to visit especially during the spring and early summer. Great views of the Christianna River wildlife with a short boardwalk journey and view from the tower. Bring the children and visitors !
I have been to the DuPont Enviromental Center many times. It is located along the Riverfront walkway and I find it is a good place to take the children to and/or the dog for a walk, it is also good for runners. Once you get to the building you can go to the small pond and walk around it, you might see a turtle, fish, or some other local animals. It is a nice small place to visit.
We really liked the gardens around the front of the Center and under the walkway. There is a path through the marsh and opportunity to look for wildlife.
May someday grow into something major. The concept is pretty creative, but when you get down to it, there isn't much there.
We were looking for something to do with our preschooler and 1st grader on Christmas week and didn't want to spend a fortune. I did some searching in the Wilmington area and found this environmental ed center for free. It is part of an urban wildlife refuge. The building is 2 years old. The exhibits are interactive in a small space so what once would have taken up two rooms in exhibits is all housed on two interactive maps. To get there you have to walk on an elevated walkway over a freight train railroad. It was windy the day we were there so it was a bit of a hike. In better weather it is a great walk and there is a nature walkway boardwalk surrounding the marsh. Inside the center they have a bird spotting scope to use. There was a quick children's activity as well. The staff was very pleasant and took us down to their education classroom and showed the kids the turtles and snakes. The center has floor to ceiling windows so you can see the wildlife around you. I will definetely be back in warmer weather for their many programs.
Sent a small group of children ages 4-13 for a morning program...they were thrilled. Learned something about insects, small water creatures and lunched in the garden.
Situated at the end of the newly constructed natue walk, this natural oasis and modern design facility complement the environmentally sensitive natural surroundings. Wheter your hosting a Board Retreat, Staff meeting, team building or continuing education for profession group this site will stimulate the senses and add energy and enthusiam among participants. The long ramp up to the building increases the curiosity level and upon arrival your not dissapointed. Amazing views of wetlands and the upper portion of Christina River. The staff are polite and accomodating, and for bio breaks can conduct short tours and tutorials on the surrounding environment.Popular with young children and school tours, plan accordingly if you have a large group.
I took my grandchildren down today and we were all disappointed. Just saw a few tadpoles and a few tiny fish. No butterflies. Nothing much in the building either. The walkway is very nice, good views while walking, but nothing else. We won't go back.
We just went to the Dupont environmental place on the river front. Having a family day out with my fiance niece and 3 year old son. I look up the website see that they are open drive the 15 miles to get there, walk on a bridge for a few hundred feet to the front door that says sorry were closed. Two females sitting behind the desk just put their heads and ognored the fact we were standing there in 10 degree weather with a child. No apology no anything. No mind you you have to drive down a small back road to the bridge... Not one place had a sign out saying they were closed. The gates were open everything. Nothing on the website stating they were closed. It is also 1230 2 and a half hours before actual closing. Just very disappointing that they have a lot of opportunity to display a closing sign before the long cold walk to the door. I can promise I won't waste my time again or donate.
