Visited Aug./14 and very impressed with this gem of a place in the city. As an avid gardener (from Ontario) I was delighted by all the different flowers/plants/trees and water features in the gardens. There are themes in different area's and I leisurely took my time to enjoy them all. Great place for photography. If I lived in Vancouver I'd get an annual pass to enjoy all the seasons. Every enjoyable.
Went to VanDusen for the first time even though I live in the Lower Mainland. Must say I was a little underwhelmed. Maybe it's because of the time I went, there were for obvious reasons not many flowers in bloom but still found it to be nice but not great. It is definitely a nice relaxing place to go for a walk and enjoy nature but I'm not sure I felt the price was worth the visit. I've heard its great for Christmas time when they have the light display so I will save my next visit for then. Must also point out that they are not a breastfeeding friendly facility, which I was actually quite surprised about. They have no facilities whatsoever for breastfeeding (I asked 4 different people) and in the end was provided a chair in the admissions area of the Visitors Centre so I could breastfeed facing a wall.
My partner and I were here in the summer and LOVED it! We heard Vancouver had an early spring and were hoping to see the city in full bloom with cherry, magnolia and camellia blossoms. And some of that is happening at VanDusen. Love Truffles Café for a snack before the walkabout.Beautiful and peaceful, with plenty of birds calling about. Love the Monkey Puzzle Trees!
We have visited the garden at various seasons and certainly Winter isn't the garden's best time. But there are still some flowering plants. The grounds are still very relaxing to walk. The maze is still fun for children. Etc. It's just a great place to go for a walk, maybe have some afternoon tea (although they were out this time!!).
Flowers, magnificent trees, interesting sculptures and a very nice cafe (we only had coffee) with friendly competent waitstaff.
We visited on the first weekend of March and were enchanted by the beauty of this gorgeous site as it bursts into vibrant life. The early cherry and plum blossoms, the buttery witch hazel and the fuzzy, creamy magnolias along with the showy camellias, occasional primroses and sweet, early rhodos were a pure spring tonic. We look forward to a couple more weeks of warmth before we can enjoy the spring bulbs and rhododendrons in full flush.
This garden is gorgeous...lovely place to walk and to see a huge variety of beautiful fauna and flora...you can get a snack or tea and lunch as well. Good for kids too!
If you like flowers or plants you will have a very lovely and scenic stroll here in VanDusen garden. This garden is gigantic, you will not have a chance to see the entire garden in one visit, so if there is a particular area you would like to go to you should probably check out the map and plan accordingly. Some fun places I like to go to are the ponds, the hedge maze, the waterfall and the vegetable garden.Nice seeing some ducks, herons, and geese at the different ponds occasionally. Also used to regularly see a Barred Owl here near dusk.Sometimes there are events held here on the main lawn or in the main building. There is a cafe and both indoor/outdoor seating for it in the main building but I haven't went there much.In the winter there is the spectacular Festival of Lights held here which is a wonderful Christmas activity to do in Vancouver and not to be missed.
