Hi, West Bend may not be Milwaukee but as the saying goes, "Great things can come in small packages." Well, we are definitely smaller than the larger cities around southeast Wisconsin but the new Museum of Wisconsin Art is anything but small. This is a grand venue with an outstanding collection of Wisconsin art. The building is new and worth the visit just to check it out!Enjoy the whole experience. And take advantage of West Bend's great restaurants while you are here. We met friends from Milwaukee yesterday who had not visited the museum. It was a double joy to see how much they liked it!!
We came here on the recommendation of my sister, who is a Wisconsin Artist. While the museum reminded me of the East Wing, with its triangular shape, the MOWA contains a much smaller display space. I should note that you have to pay to get in and there are various memberships. My mother and my sister spent 15 minutes trying to figure out the best combination. In that time we hit the gift shop as well as watched their new piece, "OK".The museum is compact. On the first floor, there are several wall spaces where the current exhibits are displayed. In both cases, these were photographs of WIsconsin people or businesses. Then you go upstairs where the main gallery is. I have attached some pictures of the featured artwork. The collection is best described as eclectic, the only common denominator is that the artist has ties to Wisconsin (hence the same).Overall, it took us about ninety minutes to see everything. The price was a little high and we would probably go somewhere else the next time we visit.
Just amazing. On the waterfront, architecturally beautiful. I cannot write all my thoughts within the limits of this forum
It is a must see if you are in West Bend or in the area. The curators have done an excellent job of mixing change with standards in the exhibits. Go on line to see what is currently being displayed
It's been 15 years since we have been to a John S. Curry exhibit in Madison. There were several pieces that weren't in the exhibit back then. My wife and I both became members!
Went to the museum on a whim. Well, what a great experience. The art collection is excellent with great local/members arts
The architecture of the new museum building is wonderful. The exhibit space, although small, is great. They have very interesting special exhibits. A visit to the museum store is also a good idea.
Well worth the price of admission! The space may be small, but included are pieces from the 19th century through present day. It truly is an eclectic mix, you're sure to find something particularly appealing. They also do a nice job of rotating traveling exhibits, offering programs for adults and children, and staging special events this weekend's 'Bloomin Holidaze'. Ask if there is a docent available, they do a great job of interpreting many of the pieces. We brought a group of 8 and scheduled a docent in advance. It was a great experience. Afterward, we had a delicious lunch at the Grasshopper (it's one block west of MOWA on N. Main St., another great place for lunch is The Braising Pan
The museum was beautiful and the layout very accessible. The artworks were all connected in some way to the state of Wisconsin. Admission gives you a yearlong membership.
What a fantastic addition to West Bend! LOVE IT! The building itself has some character and adds a lot to the city and it's a great venue for events. I've been to two receptions there and had a great time at both. High class place.
