Beautiful place. They have a dog friendly beach there, that is very nice. Beautiful area for hiking.
We had a family picnic over Labor Day weekend. The beach is beautiful. The water was a bit chilly for swimming. There is a big fenced in area on the beach for dogs to run and play in the sand and water. The picnic area is nice and shady with plenty of tables and parking. This is definitely one of my favorite parks along the lakeshore.
Lovely beach with off leash area and glorious dune climb. Best beach in west Michigan--less crowds and more nature.
Relax on this quiet beach or take a hike on the walking paths! At peak times (holidays, hot summer weekends) it can be busy so get there early to park. There is no street parking and it does require a county sticker or day-pass. Beautiful!
This is a hidden gem on Lake Shore Drive south of Grand Haven. Great place to visit on a summer day. Located on Lake Michigan with great boardwalks.
Kirk Park used to be a Boy Scout camp. It has beautiful trails to hike/climb and easy access to the beach. Can walk 7 miles north or 3 miles south before running into a pier. It is not as busy as Grand Haven state park. Has a covered pavilion for gatherings, charcoal pits and ample parking. Have been there often. Even pretty in winter.
I kept hearing about Kirk Park from other pet owners, so figured I had to check it out. To get to the dog-friendly beach, there's a wooded trail leading to the beach area, which has stairs leading down to the beach. The area of the beach that's dog-friendly is "fenced," but it's snow-drift fencing and won't keep your dog from taking off down the beach if s/he's a runner. However, dogs can be off-leash! My dog was thrilled with our visit! I was happily surprised at how clean the beach area was - owners were very good at picking up after their dogs. Ottawa County did a really nice job of strategically placing trash bins and plastic bag (poop bag) containers on both the trails as well as on the beach. The dogs were having a blast and I'm glad to have discovered this gem!
We live next door to Kirk Park and it a wonderful place to take a walk/hike/stairclimb in the woods! There is a beautiful beach to use that includes an off leash dog area.
My husband and I came here while visiting Grand Rapids and are so glad we made the trip out! We love to hike and lay on the beach, and this park has both of those available. It is well maintained and clean, too. Unfortunately it was too cold to swim while we were there, but it was still fun to walk around then sit and enjoy the lake. The dog beach made us wish we had our dogs with us too. It's so neat to walk through trees and up to the overlooks. You pay for parking but it's more than worth it.
I traveled here on a road trip to see the changing leaves. It is a great park! A lot of parking is available. Easy access to the beach compared to other parks. Just a short walk on paved trail. Clean bathrooms available as well. There were only 3 other people on the entire beach area. Granted it was fall, but perfect for a little hiking and color watching.
