The playground was always great, but now they have made it fun for big kids, too. The food at Joey's is actually really good food and now they have Pinkberry! Volleyball courts are available. Fun to walk all the way to Elvira's and get a snack there too.
I love to meet my girlfriends and take the kids for strolls along this beach. It's really lovely and a lot cleaner than some of the other beaches along the Sound. There's a nice restaurant right on the water toward the far end, near the little deli. And by the main part of the beach they have a boardwalk with a nice fast food stand, volleyball courts, shaded seating. It's typical beach stuff, but much welcome within such a short drive from the house.
Love the size of this beach...not too large but fits plenty of people. You feel like you're at a beach club rather than a public beach. Facilities are wonderful including a very comprehensive snack bar and an amazing large playground. While the rocks and shells pose a walking hazard unless you're prepared, the water and the views are wonderful. Pure relaxation!Only downside is parking...there is none other than the $35 lot. So bike there is you can!
Beautiful! I have been going to Compo Beach for over thirty years. Always a treat. I like the historic Cannons and Statues. Love walking along this beach. The sand is gritty with lots of little rock bits and shells. I have never experienced anything like it. The south side of the beach is good for private picnics, groups, and is slightly more quiet. The north side, is very family friendly with a Pavilion, Snack Bar, Lockers, Swing Set, and the "Cannons". Parking can be expensive, but worth it. Amazing Sunsets.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our visit to Compo Beach - what a lovely waterfront spot! After annual visits to Jones Beach, we were charmed by the quiet of this beach and the ease with which we parked. We set up our blanket, chairs and umbrella with ease and relaxed into hours of listening to the gentle surf and the sound of laughing children and exuberant sea gulls. The only flaw for me - and it's remarkably petty since it's nothing that can be fixed without an act of nature like a hurricane! - was the very thing that I'm sure so many families are attracted to: the absence of any noticeable waves. Part of the beach experience that thrills me are the waves pounding in on the shore and you don't go to Compo Beach for that. However, for a deliciously peaceful afternoon by the water, I highly recommend this idyllic place!
Just a small classic beach on the Long Island sound compo beach is a family destination. You can BBQ on the south side of the beach and watch the sunset. Your kids can play on the playground for hours and get a snack or meal at Joey's . THere are basketball hoops, Volleyball nets and a track if you want to run it. If you are not a resident the Fee on the weekend is $50 per car which is pricey. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from April 1 through September 30. But then it's dog heaven .
This is a nice beach, and entry to it is free, but parking fees are very expensive on the weekends. The fee is $30 weekdays, and $50 on weekends and holidays.
Great water, great sand, easily one of the better beaches around town. Quite expensive if you don't have a town pass.
Bringing dinner with friends to Compo Beach is always a treat and the sunsets can be magnificent! This is always a fun thing to do "last minute"....pick up some chips, salsa and a salad and don't forget Tates
Compo Beach is located in Westport Ct on Long Island Sound. It is a town-owned beach with residents able to purchase a season pass while out-of-towners must pay by the day. This set of beaches has it all -- volleyball courts, huge playground, grills, picnic tables, a snack shop that sells light meals, dressing rooms with showers, life guards, and a beautiful view. During the day on a weekday it is not packed, but on weekends it may be hard to get a picnic table on the south beach where they have grills and tables along the shore. This portion of the beach is a bit rocky at the at the tide line and into the water. The beach on the other side of the cannons has beautiful white sand and is a more popular place for swimming and spreading out a blanket for sunbathing.
