Wonderful grounds , lovely house with huge Xmas tree. We visit here very often. But our one gripe is the restaurant is not big enough for the amount of people that go through charlecote. Baddesley is way better.
Thank you for your review of Christmas time at Charlecote. We're sorry to hear that it did not meet your expectations. Our aim this year has been to recreate a traditional Victorian Christmas. The house and outbuildings have been decorated to reflect the way that Charlecote would have looked and felt around 150 years ago by bringing out the true spirit and character of this family home. Together the decorations and the programme of activities including storytelling and music are designed to give a Christmas atmosphere in the warm, homely way that is a key part of Charlecote.
Took the boys here for a day out. The scenery is excellent. We went deer spotting which isn't hard and were lucky enough to find a small antler. The grounds are spacious and good for exploring, the hall was closed when we visited but some of the outhouses were still open and the walks are superb. Great for a few hours with the kids or a nice walk to get away from it all.
Hi,Thanks for your lovely comments about Charlecote and the Turret holiday flat. We're glad you had a great stay with us!
This Tudor house, outbuildings and park are well cared for and as they were being 'unpacked' after the winter it was interesting to see how the Trust look after their properties. The deer were lovely too but what remember most is the really friendly and knowledgeable staff and the added extras - ladies cooking their jacket potatoes in the range, the talk on Tudor costume which was particularly interesting if you watched Wolf Hall etc. Lunch was pretty good too.
We arrived here late afternoon so just had time to enjoy the park and ground floor of the house before it closed for the day. There was enough time though I did feel that certain staff were already packing up and ready to be off as soon as possible, when it wasn't actually the ends of visiting. The Christmas feel and decorations gave a good ambience.
We decided to go here as it was not too far from where we were staying and the pictures on the National Trust website looked lovely. Unfortunately we picked a very cold day so didn't spend much time here, however it is somewhere we would return if in the area. We would also make sure the house was open as we are out of season this time. A lovely setting and managed to get some great pictures of the deer that were there
It took us an hour to drive to this property and much less time to look round it. I estimate that there were only 6 or 7 rooms to look round, less that half of the property. We are NT members so didn't have to pay, but I'd have been sorely disappointed if we had. The café was quite cramped and my partner found a hair baked into his overpriced sausage roll, which wasn't nice.We did have a nice spring walk around the meadow and along a stretch of the River Avon. The deer and the small church were both lovely, but on the whole I wasn't impressed and probably wouldn't go back.
We were staying at The Walton Hall so decided to have a look around this National Trust place on the way back to the hotel on the first sunny Spring afternoon of the year.We just paid for the park and gardens as we don't really enjoy the properties. Overall it was a lovely place to have a wander around and we could have stayed for hours if we wanted. There were many families enjoying picnics and games of cricket which was lovely to see.We had scones and coffees in the cafe - the young girls on the till were efficient and polite - luckily we just wanted a snack as by 2:30pm most of the food had sold out. It was very busy we suspect due to the weather so we weren't surprised how popular the cafe was!Overall it was a lovely couple of hours and the staff on the reception and welcome pointing out the key staff were clearly very enthusiastic, polite and enjoying their jobs!
As a National Trust member, the admission price is not an issue. However, if I were a casual visitor and had to pay the £7.50 entry fee I would be a little disappointed with limited number of rooms to view in the main house. However, what rooms that are available are decorated and furnished with some tremendous items!Unusually, the volunteers assisting visitors within the main house are much younger than experienced at other NT properties visited in recent years, which is good to see.
