Located in the plain of Chios, this old local mansion of the area is a typical kind of the architecture of Kampos. We visited it for a morning coffee and admired the gardens and the peace of the area as well as the topical sweets and juices.Driving south, signs will help you find the spot in the labyrinthine narrow roads. Best way to visit is on a bicycle.
our landlady recommended a visit to this unusual "shrine" for the citrus industry on Chios. It may sound a bit quirky but the Citrus "museum" is a fascinating place. It is a peaceful haven which traces the history of the important citrus industry on the island. It has a shop/ café where you can purchase/ sample their products. Well worth a visit.
It was by far the most fascinating museum tour I've ever experienced. A great place that captures the spirit of Kambos. Run by an amazing team, Citrus is not to be missed when visiting Chios.
Citrus museum, located in the magnificent area of Kampos is a place we visited 3 times in our one week stay in Chios. Many reasons to go there : the wonderful museum, the coffee shop, the shop with their own citrus products and the architecture of the place and the area. We were also very lucky in meeting and chatting with the owner of the place, Mrs Ioanna, who shared with us stories of the past and made the mansion come alive again in front of us as it was decades ago.
we attended an open air concert by the Choral orchetra in the shade of tall trees. Citrus small shop offers quality of locally produced goods.
This a very beautiful mansion in Kampos area with a very interesting museum explaining the fact that Kampos was almost a world leader in growing and exporting all types of citrus, from oranges to lemons, and mandarines in Europe, Russia, and the East during the early 20th century. I learned a lot about orchards, irrigation, and citrus business. The video at the end of the museum itinerary was excellent!!! And the portokalopita - orange pie in the peaceful cafe' was very tasty!
A tour in citrus estate will bring you closer to Chios of the past times. There is a museum where you can learn the agricultural history of the island, many trees to see the local production and a cafe with local tasty products.
excellent destination for coffee and to taste home made local chios sweets and products. Very nice museum of how was the "kampos" estates at the past.
Great for a coffee break! Be tempted by the Greek sweets from the shop! If travelling with children, nice spot to take a breather whilst children wander through the grounds.
In Kambos, one of the most beautiful areas in the south of Chios, you will find Perivoli Estate in Argenti Street and here is housed the Citrus museum, surrounded by orchards, flowers and plants. In the Citrus museum you can gain an impression of life in the Kambos. You can also see a video. Citrus fruit and espeicial the mandarins of Chios are famous worldwide and until today very important in this region. Delightful procuts are for sale. After the visit to the museum you can relax and enjoy a fresh orange juice or a cup of coffee or tea. A walk through the garden afterwards completes the visit. Citrus Museum higly recommended.
