We went ot this site while on a tour. It was very interesting once you know what the burial experience is. Walk around at a small pace and enjoy.
Gave it 4 stars for it was difficult to find. This is a beautiful cemetery. My sister and I were introduced to this cemetery at the No market. R Broussard was selling photographs of angels he had taken at Metairie. He is an artist and his photography is beautiful! We were told the history of Metairie and also some of the angel stories. So much history. We realized we needed to see it. We were not disappointed!
Stopped by here on the way to drive over the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. It is part of the overall feeling of the soul of the people and the way of life that is reflected in the attention to the glory of the final resting place.
Weirdly fascinating but hugely informative cemetery tour of New Orleans burial traditions. Like none other I've ever experienced!
We took the 3-hour Southern Style Tours tour and this was one of our stops. I know that the Lafayette #1 in the Garden District and the St. Louis cemeteries are very popular, but they took us to this one because they said it's more spacious. It had a great history, too. Some famous people interred here, along with some eccentrics. I don't know how easy it is to get here on your own, but if you're considering the Southern Style tours, it's definitely a high point.
A great look into the above ground necessity of crypts. Sometimes you get lucky and a New Orleans style funeral is in progress. Makes you realize what "Celebrate life" is all about. Seeing all the history in such a relatively small area is amazing.
Let your imagination run free as you tour this historic cemetery. So much history. You can just feel the spirit energy floating around as you read the tombs.
Was a bit tricky to find but once we got to the entrance we were able to wander around. They have some very beautiful statues here. We took photos and found it to be a good visit.
Wonderful and historic, bring you camera. There are stories of people being mugged, so stick to the open areas and close to groups. Common sense will be all you need.
We were here to help clean the family crypt of a relative. To have one open and see inside is a very cool experience. These above ground works of art for the departed is a necessity given New Orleans is below sea level. The fact that the folks make wonderful pieces of art to celebrate the life of their loved ones is special.
