This tip of San Juan Island is peaceful yet thrilling in that the views are expansive, the water swift, the wildlife unspoiled (eagles, birds, fox, whales sometimes) and the prospect of many other islands and the mainland looking eastward is so peaceful. Bring a picnic to the shelter and few tables or just a book to stake out a quiet spot on the rocks. The South Beach just to the west is great too, but this is my quiet spot of choice.
Gorgeous look out and a red tail fox came straight up to us. Amazing! There are picnic tables to enjoy a nice meal and beverage of your choice while the sun sets.
Nice quiet days usually not a lot of people around nice to explore and take pictures. Be careful walking down to the beach. Enjoyed just a day me and my husband had an awesome picnic. Walking on the edge of the water watching the ducks and the one harbor seal that was watching us pretty closely. One or two people walking their dogs. This is just one of the really quiet days we had.
On this new Historic Momument Site is a lighthouse that sits high on a cliff. The drive along the coast is lovely. The open fields are alive with wildlife. Worth the trip.
did not see any Orcas that day but cattle point was a good spot to stop and have lunch while touring the island
Amazing and totally private......noone else was on the beach! It was a beautiful day in October and not a cloud in the sky!
Cattle Point is a great place to view the Olympic Range across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to see wild foxes that prey on the overpopulation of rabbits that life in "towns" of dozens of burrows. Go down to the shore to beach comb along the longest stretch of sand on the island, and clamber over the immense piles of driftwood seeking little natural treasures and great photos.
