Eğer zamanınız varsa Sinop'a gelmişken görün derim.
It's one of the oldest prisons in Turkey now it's serving as a museum. It's heavily damaged and nothing much to see, but it's a major landmark in Sinop. This prison was also famous for its cruelty. If you're in Sinop and have some extra time, you may visit this place of bad memories.
Dating back to the 11th century, this old castle was used as a prison for the last 100 years and was vacated about 10 years ago..Built right on the sea front, the inmates must have suffered a real high level of humidity within the thick walls of the castle. It is worth seeing when you can imagine the harsh conditions of the past and prisoners here but the building needs a renovation as it was left into the hands of ever-ruining humidity due to its location to Black Sea.
A huge complex that is completely deserted. There are no signs or displays but that is what makes the place so mysterious. You get a real idea what it was like in the jail. The dungeon near the entrance is particularly spooky. A must see in Sinop- take your camera there are so many eerie hallways and cells to capture. Only 5 TL great value!
This is a unique landmark that is very interesting to visit, away from more mosques and cathedrals. It is not well signed but google for information. The feel is of doom, and to think if in the old days a bad written review may get you a sentence.
Sinop is a great place for shopping and has impressive fortifications but our main reason for strolling around was to visit the writers prison Cevaezi. We were not disappointed. The fact that this place was used until the 1960's is really very disturbing and anyone who has seen the film Midnight Express will know what to expect! I found it more disturbing than Alcatraz but it was an absolute "must see!" There was a charge for admittance but I'm not sure now how much but it was well worth it to explore this desolate, creepy and scary place.
This prison was built in the 1200s by the seljuks and later used by the Ottomans and the Turkish Republic until 1997. It is very important for imprisoning writers and poets and is known as the "writer's prison." This is a must for all history buffs . The brochure they give you on entry does not include all of the important political prisoners, so make sure you Google it and find out the full list.
This place was interesting. Allow at least two hours to fully explore. If you like taking photos, you will need a full batteries since you will need your flash since there are many dark rooms and dungeons. This historic fortress-converted-to-jail hosted many famous figures during the times of Selcuk Empire, Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic until 1999. Now it is a museum, but there is still room for a lot of renovations. There is also an old printing press machine and an old truck which used to carry the inmates on display. Hundreds of stone cannonballs as well.
