this was another nice add on to our activist work and trip ,very cool place and glad they help the animals.another good memory to add.
This is a must see for those who are on a cruise ship and want a quick glimpse of what a small part of Alaska's wildlife is all about.
The raptor center offers an educational environment combined with a worthy cause. They have many areas for family fun for young children and outdoor activities that satisfy all ages. Great walking trails ( be sure to ead warnings in spring of wildlife on trails including bears ) . They have care facilities for wounded animals and open areas for habitat observation. Great place for an afternoon outing. Gate price and gift shop very affrdable.
We are glad that we stopped at the Alaska Raptor Center. It is a great opportunity to see a large variety birds close up and learn of the wonderful job that they do with rehabilitation. Tootsie the owl at the front desk was worth the trip all by herself!
Another great attraction in Alaska. We were in Sitka just for a day on a cruise ..but had this attraction on our "to do" list. It is a wonderful facility where the people are making a great effort to bring injured raptors back to health, hopefully (though not always) to the point where they can be released back into the wild. But there is a home for life for those unable to fend for themselves again in the wild. Endless photo opportunities, a very good gift shop, walking trails etc - and all an easy walk from the town. I believe there may also be a shuttle bus available.
Such a beautiful price a little spendy but for a good cause - all those birds are so well taken care of and have nice habitats because of visitors
Our family went there about 20 years ago and we have a lasting impression of their good works. The center saves a lot of eagles which have been injured and need medical treatment. They depended on donations for funding. This is a worthwhileoperation and you will learn a lot if you go there.
This was an excellent place to see Eagles up close and in the wild. We saw an eagle up close with its trainer and also outside. The wild Eagles were flying around the property too. There were also owls on display. They do a lot of good work in rehabilitating injured birds also. Just a great experience.
When in Sitka, the raptor center should be on everyone's bucket list with their trip to Alaska. The center's mission is Bald Eagle & birds of prey rehabliitation, public education, & bald eagle research. A wonderful family activity. We were sitting in front of the handler with one of the eagles, who spread their wings - one of the most glorious, awesome, and humbling sights I've ever seen. The staff is so knowledgeable and the facility so well done. Be sure to go and adopt an Eagle or classroom to help the Raptor Center and the magnificent birds who are there.
You will enjoy every minute of the lecture and leave with new knowledge about the bald eagle and other raptors. While entertaining that is just a byproduct of a very good albeit short (20 min) lecture. You will be closer than you probably ever will be to all these raptors. It is time well spent. I live in Sitka but still enjoy the Raptor Center. The only con is they tend to wait for late bus' waisting everyone else's time. This seldom happens but when it does it is a real pain.
