If you've never seen Shakespeare's plays performed, The Winter's Tale would be a great place to start. The play is sad, scary, hilariously funny, wise and best of all beautifully acted in this original performance playhouse. Rainy day tomato soup with zucchini bread makes a delicious dinner beforehand, and special desserts are a treat at intermission. And did we mention that it is a tavern? Enjoy!
This is a place that you want to get there as the place opens so you can score a great seat. We sat in the balcony and it was a little to hot temperature wise so if you sit up there pleas dress accordingly. We bought a bottle of Melot and it was a nice selection for the price. We also both Ate a shepards pie and it could have easily been shared. It was spicy however, I like it that way and my date not so much. The entertainment was fun however, a little hard to follow the plot and what the actors were saying. I'd recommend this place for a unique entertainment venue however, I would most like not eat there in the future and just enjoy the show..
I went this July to see a Midsummer's Night Dream, and then last night to see A Christmas Carol. I have been impressed both times by everything! (The food isn't amazing, but everything else definitely is.) I would highly recommend The Shakespeare's Tavern to anyone looking for an enjoyable dinner theater in Atlanta. I can't wait to go again!
We saw Christmas Carol at The Shakespeare Tavern with our two children (7 & 10). We've been wanting to visit the Tavern and were thrilled to learn that this particular show was appropriate for younger children. The performance was wonderful and the cast spent time after the show thoughtfully answering questions from the audience. Four stars only because the food wasn't great. The show and service were outstanding.
We saw "A Christmas Carol" at The New American Shakespeare Tavern and it was the highlight of the holiday season. The acting was superb, the theater beautifully decorated and comfortable. The bar was reasonably priced, and offered a good selection of beer that was always served with a smile and a friendly, cheerful attitude. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this was and how it absolutely made our trip to Atlanta and our Christmas celebration one we will remember for years to come. The overall experience was phenomenal.
We went to see Romeo and Juliet, the play was entertaining and well put together. We sat in the balcony seats, there are no tables in this area and we had to eat off trays on our laps. The food was good and they had a large selection of beers and wine. We went with friends who were not Shakespeare fans and they really did not enjoy themselves.
We saw the Merry Wives of Windsor and had a blast! The actors were awesome and the way they interacted with the audience on a couple of instances was funny. We had box seats and had perfect view of the stage, but from what I could see, no matter where you sit, you will have a good view. All staff were very helpful and the Shepherd's pie we had was good.
I love this place! My whole family goes several times a year. You must try the apple crisp! The feel is casual, and it's easy to see the stage from any seating
We saw "the Winter's Tale" and were surprised by how much we loved this lesser known production. The cast does an amazing job of interpreting the text and presenting it in a way that everyone can understand. Even though this play isn't considered completely a comedy, it was hilarious. Get to the theater when the doors open if you want to chose a good seat. Seating is first come, first served. We sat on the side of the balcony and enjoyed the view from above. The food was slightly better than average. Nothing remarkable, but a decent price, and if you are getting there an hour before the production, you may as well eat something! The menu changes with every production, but we found the small plates (black bean chili and dragon noodles) to be ample portions for our appetite. The coffee wasn't very good, but that's about all the negative things I can say about this place. We really enjoyed it!
We saw the comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor and enjoyed every minute. The building and theater are neat, staff is genuinely kind and helpful. The dinner menu had many English dishes and ours were delish! The bar had a wide variety of English beers and hard ciders, some on tap.AND THE SHOW was excellent! Superior acting, high quality costumes and the directing was spot on. The audience ROARED constantly. Go and enjoy yourself!
