One of the most prominent and perhaps least known museums in Yerevan... Discover the unique talent and inventions of the Maestro Kochar whose works are exhibited in the collection of the Centre Georges Pompidou...
Istoria xudojnika. Osobo vpechatlili ego 3x izmernie proizvedenia.
Kochar museum is a pleasant museum of this painter sculpter and not far from central city Takes about 30 to 45 min to see
Lovely little Miseum with a great collection of art. Spend an hour and see something very special. I liked it all!
The museum was under minor rennovation when we visited in late-December 2014. They were in the process of replacing many of the pedestals holding the sculptures as well as hanging new items on the walls. But despite the dust, the staff was very welcoming and allowed us the view the exhibits. Entrance fee was 600 dram per person (about $1.20 USD), so very inexpensive from a foreign tourist perspective. I was surprised when one of the staff started to give us a detailed overview of the exhibits, the history of Ervand Kochar, and then each of the different themes of his work. She stayed with us for about 30 minutes providing considerably more information than we would have gathered on our own. She spoke excellent English. Afterwards she let us wander on our own for a bit, and then asked (but not pushy) if we wanted to buy any books, but was plenty okay with us not buying anything. She said the rennovation would be completed by end of January 2015. Overall worth the quick visit.
What a talented artist way ahead of his time with his creations! We didn't know who Ervand Kochar was and almost didn't go even though we walked passed this museum many times on our way to Cascade! It is well worth seeing this museum for about 500 tram which is about $1. I highly recommend getting a guide for 2000 to 3000 tram more( $5 to $7.50, I can't remember the exact amount). Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate. We have a greater understanding of his forever famous Sasountzi Tavit's sculptor, and understand the inbuilt symbolisms. We also have a greater understanding of the suppression of creativity during the 1930's and 40's, often resulting in cruel imprisonment. What a tragedy!
