Fans of Jimmy will enjoy this look at his life. Lots of pictures, posters, and memorabilia to see. It will take a couple of hours to see it all, more if you read every caption. There were three movies playing on small screens around the museum. There is also a biographical film in a small theater. Free parking in the rear so you'll need to go around the block. There's not much else to do in the town so this is truly a destination stop.
My husband and I decided to travel to Indiana, PA, to watch It's a Wonderful Life, my favorite movie, for a holiday gift. The viewing was excellent (comfy seats, big screen, fun intro). We didn't expect to enjoy viewing a biography of his life and museum full of interesting artifacts from his life. Well done! Also loved walking around the adorable town and hearing Jimmy Stewart talk to you when you were at a crosswalk! Fun!
Went to the museum on December 26 to have something to do. I was very surprise at the quality of the museum on Mr Stewart life. There a short film, movie posters, and alot of photos. Mr Stewart was a great supporter of the Boy Scouts. The gift Shop had a list of his 81 films. Senior discount. I send almost 2 hours looking around.
I really enjoyed this museum. It has some great pictures, awards, movie posters, and historical items of Jimmy's. I really enjoy how they showed Jimmy's family timeline and events incorporated into history. I only spent an hour, as they were closing, but I definitely could have spent 2 or 3 hours reading everything. I really enjoyed the visit, as we were in Indiana getting our Christmas tree.
Being a fan of Jimmy Stewart I enjoyed seeing the memorabilia associated with him. The museum is on the 3rd floor of the building. It's not very big but is crammed with a lot of things. Many Many pictures with lots of reading. The people there were very pleasant and made my wife and I feel very welcome. One man took the time to explain and show us different things and made it personable. I think it was worth the small fee we paid to see it.
IThe muesum appears small, tucked in between the city library and the courthouse where the bronze statue of James Stewart greets you outside as "Everyman," but the museum goes on and on with extra side rooms I didn't even know were there until I got further along! The film biography, the history of his family (fascinating things I never knew about him), as well as his military record in WWII, for he had it written into his contract that publicists could never talk about his service to our country; that was one part of his life that he wanted to be kept entirely separate from his life in film --- every U.S. war dating back and including the Revolution had a member of his family fighting for our freedom). If one actually reads about his background, it's so fascinating that it took me two full days to go through the museum, though one could "skim" it in a couple of hours. I learned things both about Stewart's movie career and whole life that I didn't know, and here, I was a most avid fan and thought I knew everything! Absolutely worth the nominal entrance fee. What a phenomenal patriot, actor, and all-around exemplary American!
The museum was on our list of things to see while touring Western Pa. The museum is centrally located on Pennsylvania Street, with parking in the rear of the County Community building. As you exit the elevator on the third floor you are greeted by Harvey the rabbit. After paying a nominal entrance fee, the greeter starts your self guided tour with an introduction to the museum, providing some knowledgeable information. The museum is adorned with photos, mementos, and a time line of Jimmy's life starting with his boyhood in Indiana, through his military service, and of course through his movie career. There are film posters, awards, and citations everywhere; most notably is his war hero medals. You also can see one of three offered short twenty minute clips in the theater; we chose the making of "It's A Wonderful Life". His childhood home can be seen from the "Rear Window" of the museum. It's a block away up on Vinegar Hill, but be careful when looking down that you don't get "Vertigo"!
The Jimmy Stewart Museum is dedicated to Indiana's hometown hero. The museum is dedicated to Jimmy Stewart's life and career. It includes many photos and movie posters as well as costumes from a few of his movies and one of his uniforms from WW II. Especially interesting were the recreations of his childhood bedroom and his office. If you have time they also show a choice of movie bio-pics.
This museum is a little gem ~ well worth the drive from Centre County. We spent about an hour inside ~ could go back again. There is a lot of movie trivia. Real movie stars. I think $7 is a bargain !
Connected to the Indiana Free Library, the Jimmy Stewart Museum is dedicated to the town's favorite native son. It has a square layout, with plaques dedicated to Jimmy Stewart's life and career. There are two recreated rooms, one containing his office and uniform from World War Two and another a recreation of his childhood room. At the front of the museum is the doorway from his Beverly Hills home.To give an idea of how big Indiana, PA is on Jimmy Stewart, here are a few examples:1) This museum.2) Bronze statue at the courthouse of him.3) Jimmy Stewart Blvd.4) Jimmy Stewart Airport.5) Jimmy Stewart Crosswalk Signals in the center of Philadelphia Street.
