York Countians are fortunate to have a great park system and to me this is the crown jewel. While other parks in the system have more acreage, this has the best mix of development with the feeling of wilderness. While trails are well marked, it's best to download a map from the york county pa website before coming. One downside is bow and arrow hunting in October and November. I stay away in these times. The park is also the site of a great Christmas Festival of Lights. This is a unique feature and worth a trip in December.
This is a good park for family picnics with pavilions, playgrounds, nice overlook close by, plus multiple trails. You'll want to pick up a trail map at the large parking lot at the end of the park where the power lines are (display on the left side when you drive out of the woods). Some of the trails are tough and some are long. Good for hiking, bikes, and running. Check for ticks . . .
Nice park with good views, a few playgrounds, and lots of hiking trails (some wide and flat, others steeper and narrower). Great place for a day hike with a family.
This York County park is a gem, especially when the holiday light show isn't active. There are pleasant pavilions for picnics, paved trails to two wonderful overlooks, and lots of woodland. Downside is that there is hunting in certain seasons on the periphery (yipes!) and a shooting range nearby that ruins the silent peacefulness at times. Open to trail bikers (non-motorized) and equestrians who are usually considerate and courteous. The power company has a high-tension line running through the middle of the park and mows down a wide swath around it. Although I'm told it's not so, I believe they also use weed killers (think RoundUp) and have excavated the little pond at least once in the last few years so that the ecology of the spot has been disturbed. Nevertheless, a nice place to hike or just go sit.
This is a great place to spend the day. there are plenty of trails, playgrounds, pavilion, etc.. This is a great place for a romantic walk with your sweetie, a picnic with the family, playing with the kids.
There are a lot of trails, pavilions for picnics, and playgrounds for the kids. My dog and I love to run the trails 1 and 2. During the Christmas season there is a wonderful Christmas light display that leads into the park and through some of the trails.
Not to be missed! A must go! Perfect for couples, families and children alike. It gets better and better every year :)
Every year for New Years eve for the last 5 years or so a group of our family and friends have enjoyed the wonderful display of lights put on by the park. You walk through the thousands of lights. Along the way you enter several in-closed pavilions with real wood burning fireplaces in them. This gives you a chance to warm up a bit before you continuing along the path. One of the pavilions has a train display. Two other pavilions also offer treats like hot chocolate and popcorn. The price for the display is reasonable and they also offer coupons for buy on get one free. It's a great way to spend New Years eve as a family!
Beautiful scenery !! there are multiple trails to walk/run inside the forest. There are multiple observation points to see the scenery. Must go for nature lovers!!
Have gone there with friends. a little more challenging than some of the parks that just provide a good walk. Beautiful views of York. Recommend for those who are in good shape and willing to clim
