I often wonder how many York residents have never visited the historic sites? They are true gems. As a little girl I would visit with my dad from time to time and then as an adult I have been a volunteer, staff member and visitor. We took our friends from England to visit the museum and historic buildings when they visited and they were delighted with the tour. The research library in the museum is a genealogical treasure trove for those with York County where you will find very knowledgeable staff and volunteers to assist you.
Discover the history of York County, Pennsylvania, at the York County Heritage Trust. One of the largest Genealogy Libraries in the area with staff to help you locate reference materials. A museum is located on premise. Other historical sites within walking distance.
Good view, pleasant place to meet for lunch. Food is pretty good, however, I think they are pricey. They do have an outdoor pit type place that is pleasant with a large outside fireplace. You have to walk steps to get there. Again, food pretty good - but pricey.
I've always enjoyed my visits to the YCHT. The building is kept in pristine condition, and the exhibits are always interesting. I love the gift shop too. It's a great place to find a gift for someone who likes local York and Pennsylvania books or crafts.

We visited the Heritage Trust museum on the free admission day, as per a newspaper press release. Nothing in the newspaper, or on the website of the museum told us we had to print out a pass ahead of time. We were informed of that when we reached the museum. We asked if the museum employee could print the pass for us, since we were already there. No. We asked what people do who don't have computer access. She didn't know. Then directed us to the public library to use one of their computers (the same computers that are always in use and always have a list of people waiting for their turn). Asked again: couldn't she print out the passes for us? No. Was she going to allow this piece of bureaucracy to prevent us from seeing the museum (which appeared empty, by the way). Yes. We left. This organization needs to take another look at their Mission. York and York County are well-known for their lack of friendliness and lack of hospitality. This was borne out by our experience.
Always served a great meal. We try to make it here when we visit York, PA. The staff is "always" pleasant!
This was one of our primary reasons to visit York. We were doing research on some of our ancestors who settled here in the 1700's. There was a Civil War display at the time of our visit. We found a number of valuable references to our ancestors in the archival library.
Very crowded. No one to direct you for parking. Many displays block by vendors. Steamed shrimp were small and cold. Ray oysters tiny. Both overpriced. Will NEVER go back!
Very nice Museum with 2 floors of beautiful antiques and heritage items. Definitely a must for visitors of York,Pa. What was nice is clean rest rooms, a room to hang up your coats and an elevator/stairs choice. There is a lot to see and walk though. Very nice gift shops too on the main floor.
