Since our last visit in 2010 it was completely renovated and made more accessable. We visited during a very clear day and the view was excellent! Please visit when in Sapporo!
We went up towards the evening and were presented with a fabulous view of the city at twilight followed by night view. It was very windy though!
This is a must visit for all locals and tourists! You get to see a wonderfully breathtaking view on top of Mount Moiwa. If you a couple, buy a padlock and write your wishes on it before you go to the place. They do sell padlocks there as well (but best to bring your own) lock it up at the Observation Deck, wish and ring the bell! It is believed that your wish will come true. :DIf you're travelling there during winter, be prepared for the weather there to be chilly cold. When I went there end of February, it was -3 degree Celsius, so be well prepared.
We took the ropeway to the first observatory and walked up to the top. The extra 600yen for a 2 minute ride seemed a bit unnecessary. Great views of the city and surrounding area.
You can enjoy 360-degree view. If the sky is clear, daytime is also great I guess, but my recommendation is evening. Very romantic!
I could walk from the mid of station at Moiwa Mt. to the top. It takes only 10-15 min by walk. You can have a beautiful view of Sapporo city from the top if the weather is good. There was a small gift shop at the station and I bought some sweets which are only sold in Sapporo and hard to find in a down town.
Cold weather made the air clear and the views of Sapporo are magnificent.Easy to get to. Early winter nit too cold, but with the effort. Wonderful trip up mountain, wonderful views, and some out door play area
We took public transport and with a little help from Google Maps found it with no problem. only issue was the cold; but what do you expect, it's winter time! The view from the top is spectacular but couldn't stay outside for long due ot the cold.
The trip up the mountain on the ropeway car and the cable car was interesting. We went during the day as part of the trip, so the view of the city although expansive was not spectacular. I think the night view on a clear day would be much better. It was pretty cold at the top in May so if you go in the winter, I would expect you would really need to bundle up, especially if it is windy and you are on the top observation deck.
A fantastic 270 degree view can be seen from the top which shows how spread out Sapporo is. This was a fun expedition.
