I'd recommend this park. OK, really just about everything in the park you can find better and bigger somewhere else if you look, but overall it was a pleasant, nice park. The penguin parade was a unique experience. The aquarium was surprisingly high quality. The foreign tourist 2-park ticket gets you in this and one other of two parks (Bear Park or Historical Village) for 3000 Yen. Not bad for Japan.Easy walk from JR station. Get to the animal shows early if there are lots of tourist buses on site.IF you rush, you can see everything except the kiddie rides in two hours or so...but we took our time.
This aquarium is a relatively small one if you have been to the ones in HK, Singapore or others, but the best part of the aquarium is the penguin parade. They have a few types of penguin and they walk along the path even the baby ones that's full of fur. They're relatively guided but they'll still walk around biting things so you gotta be careful. Noboribetsu doesn't' have much to do so I'd say this aquarium is worth a visit on the day that you get into the area.
It's really a small aquarium and nothing much to see. If you have been to other marine parks, then this place will not appeal to you. The place is pretty deserted as well as I don't see many people around.
The park is quite small and you get the usual performances from seals and dolphins. Nothing out of the ordinary. It may be quite good for kids as there are sections where you can touch the sea stars etc. For adults it's nothing new and probably better to see the wild life in its own habitat (e.g. Phillip Island Victoria).
This is a privately run park and the owner liked Denmark so much he designed it to resemble Danish castle and other buildings. Lots of Danish items on display including a replica of the Mermaid in the Danish harbor. The penquin walk is interesting – go early and squat on your spot behind the white line – don’t pet the penquins as the handlers will warn you that human germs can harm the animals. Narration only done in Japanese. Rest of show/displays are similar to other aquatic parks.
Freezing cold as it was a windy day. Really enjoyed the penguin march as it wasn't crowded (unlike the Asahikawa zoo!!). The park is quite small and entrance fee is quite expensive. We took the taxi to and from our onsen resort so the visit was extra costly for us.
. . . and that is the coral displays in the aquarium tanks were one of the best I've seen in Japan. I say this now, after having been to maybe 40 aquariums throughout the country. Very colorfull with excellent diversity, with water that was crystal clear. I visited the aquarium back in 2002 or so, so I don't know if it's the same now. I don't think a penguin show was offered at the time. I always say it's worth visiting every aquarium, no matter how small or dinky they may seem, for these little surprises.
While it isn't a Sea World type marine park, what it lacks in grand commercialism it makes up for with loads of charm. An emphasis on rare, interesting fish coupled with some cute staples (dolphins , sea lions) makes it a fun day out. Particularly heart stopping is the long escalator ride above a giant shark tank, almost unbelievable due to the lack of safety barriers. One slip and, bye! Shark bait.
