We were not sure what to expect when we booked this but it had gotten such great reviews we decided to chance it. It was important for us that it be a "family friendly show" which seemed hard to find in Chicago at this time. This was over the top wonderful. The cast is so talented and amazing. It is full of surprises and fun audience interaction. Could not recommend it more highly and it is definitely for all ages. Don't miss it!
This was the second performance I attended at the Looking Glass, and the first production involving the Actors' Gymnasium. What a wild and wonderful ride it was! My husband is a long-time fan of the Alice books, and he loved the production and how it kept a lot of the flavor, if not the text, of the original. Based on the high quality of both productions I have seen, I wouldn't hesitate to return to the Looking Glass Theater!
For someone who thought it would be "mostly just for kids," what a pleasant surprise. The talented cast wowed us. The unusual approach charmed us. We agree with the 4 star rating. Loved it!
We recently saw Looking Glass Alice at a small theatre in the heart of Chicago's magnificent mile. What a unique and cool experience! The acrobatics and performances were really great. The plot at times seemed somewhat beside the point and really just a jumping point for the performance. No complaints. I was impressed. I felt like it was a cirque de soleil meets Alice in wonderland show. It was well done and the small theatre setting made it particularly enjoyable. The performers had a lot of energy and were excellent. The show is advertised for all ages. I went with a child who also really enjoyed the show. Eyes peeled on the flying in the air scenes and other circus like stunts. The visual experience and sounds were great. I don't think this is a "kids" show though. I would think someKids under age 8 may not enjoy the sudden noises and find it hard to follow. Most people in our audience were adults. It seemed like everyone of all ages enjoyed it. Generally I do agree it is an "all ages" show as people of varying ages will enjoy the visual performance. We certainly did. The theatre is right on Michigan avenue. It isn't easy to spot, but once you find it, you will realize it's a cool old building with a cool theatre offering cool performances. Absolutely worth checking out!
Outstandingly innovative, captivatingly creative & an acrobatics in acting. Great show all 360 degrees around.
This is the second time I have been to the theatre and loved it. Easy to buy tickets online. I would recommend any traveler to Chicago make this a must see.
Not to be missed version of Alice Through The Lookingglass. Great collaboration with Redmoon Theatre. Wonderfully intimate theatre.
I really enjoyed Alice. It was recommended in the NYTimes things to do in Chicago during the winter for 2014 so I took a chance and bought a ticket.I loved the surprise in the beginning of the show, I loved the intimacy of the theatre and the interaction with the audience. Loved the originality of the script, talented actors, and definitely worth seeing if you are visiting Chicago.
My children and I went to a production of Alice in Wonderland that featured acrobatics and interaction with the audience. It was fantastic! The two gentlemen playing the Mad Hatter and the March Hare performed jaw-dropping feats with folding chairs. The woman playing Alice performed breath-taking maneuvers on the trapeze rope. The gentleman playing the White Knight was very funny. The woman playing the Red Queen was the epitome of the Red Queen. This performance was the highlight of our trip to Chicago.
My son and I saw Alice on 2/14 and it was a once in a lifetime event. It was phenomenal! Actors did a terrific job. Great audience interaction. Spell binding. Theater... There wasn't a bad seat in the house. We hope to make it a habit of going more often. Recommend for young and old alike.
