This Gary Player 18-hole course is tops in Palm Coast. The restaurant, Leroy's 19th Hole, is wonderful and reasonably priced.
You do not have to be a golfer to enjoy the lunch. Two rooms to choose from. ONe with TVs and the other to just sit and enjoy the view of the lake and golf course. Great sandwiches and salads.
Played The Grand Club Cypress Course this weekend. It was deserted except for us on a sunny Saturday afternoon at 2. Cart was in poor shape and the GPS for all carts has been disconnected. All fairways have 150 markers, some have 100 and 200 markers but not all. No distance markers in between, so, good luck, take your range finder. The greens were OK, some fairways OK but rough around the edges and most still soaked and it has not rained in over a week. Some tee boxes uneven and lacking grass. It is not looking for the new ownership of the Grand to make it. I notice all mention of Matanzas has been removed from the Grand website so it's not looking good for a reopening of Matanzas. The price I actually paid to play the Cypress was not as advertised on line. They upped the price quite a bit at the desk. When I asked why, I was told something about who knows, site needs updated. Well, they pulled the same scam 2 months ago. As I said, The Grand's future is not looking good. Poor marketing, no attempt to be competitive with the courses in Ormond, Palm Harbor and Grand Reserve. They insist on selling memberships and inflating the walk up rate. Good luck with that in 2012-13 in Palm Coast. Cypress will be closed by 2014 at this rate.
This course is incredibly punishing for hitting a little right or left. We are 17 handicappers and lost 10 balls...mildly off course and you are in the muck.
Like the other reviewer, I called to ask about playing the day after Thanksgiving and they said they were closing early. Really? This is high time for golf, the weather is beautiful, and most courses are in pretty good shape right now. The course itself is very pretty, and the greens aren't terrible albeit, quite slow. The tee boxes are like hitting out of the rough and fairways nonexistent. It was less than 30 bucks, so its hard to complain about the value I'd much rather spend a few extra bucks and play a decent golf course.
I really liked this course - the fairways and greens were in super condition and there are no gimmicky holes. It's interesting, scenic and challenging - bring your " A " game. I can't believe that it's not as crowded as it should be because it represents excellent value. Happy hour extended to 7 p.m. so you can pick up a jug of beer for $ 5.00 when you are finished. The staff - both restaurant, pro shop and starter ( Henry ) were more than just accommodating and made us feel as good as family. I'm spending the winter in Florida and they'll be seeing much more of me. Try this place - you won't regret it !
The course could be in better condition. Beware the cottonmouth snakes, we encountered a large one on hole three, just after the tee box. There are a few good holes but many are just too tight and narrow. Greens are okay, fairways have been better, tee boxes could use some maintenance. Geography limits what this course could be and one has to wonder why this location was chosen for a golf course. For us the most obvious disappointments were that the GPS has been removed from the carts and carts are in poor condition. Also, when we played in July, the rate was very affordable in the $25 range for late afternoon (no rainchecks). In August, that same late afternoon tee time has been inflated to $40. We can play not 5 miles away, at a course in much better condition, with a better layout for $20. Why would I pay twice as much for a course in worse condition, with a layout constrained by geography?
The course is a tough course in that the first two holes are very tight. the condition of the course has slipped since the previous time I played. It would appear that lack of play has caused mgmt. to reduce upkeep of course
This course was nice and great price at $23.95. It was very very hot. Course is poorly marked. They no longer have the GPS/Sky Golf things on the carts and there are NO markers in the fairways. Just poorly marked and you never really knew where you were. Outside of that, good shape and challenging
