The Hitchcock Woods are exceptionally manicured with trails that are easily accessed. We enjoyed riding in the Woods during our stay in 2015. Kudos to those that keep it so well groomed! We know that after the ice storm in 2014, this is no easy task, and we must commend all those that work so hard to keep Hitchcock Woods impeccably groomed for riding. Many thanks to you!
What can you say about the largest urban woods in the nation? Adjacent to downtown, in a residential area where horses may outnumber humans? I'm ready to move to Aiken--THAT'S how special this place is.
This is a great place to hike and walk. The woods are thick, and quiet. Parking is easy, you can't see it all in a couple visits.
We love to go hiking in the woods with our two dogs. There are many trails to discover. We usually enter the woods from the Hitchcock Estate gate and give our dogs some free run time along the trail.
A hidden Secret As the season changes the leaves turning a walk through Hitchcock is a experience we have ridden many times through here the birds the trees it is a experience
No map and no trail markings that we saw, but it was a nice day to just stroll around the Hitchcock Woods. We eventually came out at the horse showing area. Long walk for some of us older folks, but still a pleasant experience.
No wheels allowed in this wonderful, quiet city woods. There are trail maps to guide you at the various entrances, which you are to return for the next walker or horseback rider lucky enough to find this beautiful, natural place.
I have ridden many times in Hitchcock and it is always a different experience, I love watching the season change. Also perfect for walking your dog but make sure your dog knows what horses are and doesn't have a panic attack when you come across some riders.I still would like to go on a carriage ride through the woods either in spring or fall, hopefully one of these days.As others have mentioned get a map the trail system is extensive and not all little path and deer trails are marked.
If a tranquil afternoon walk in the woods under canopy of trees is on your bucket list, this is the one for you. Nature at it's best with birds, trees, well walked trails.
Enjoyed walking the path area; but weary of dogs loose. Had to keep tight control of my dog, when loose dogs approached. Owners couldn't care less. I will not be entering Hitchcock Woods again; lovely or not.
